The Human Resources Division focuses on the growth, training, and well-being of officers, junior officers, and members. It oversees developmental programs such as the Junior Officer Training Program (JOTP) and Leadership Empowerment Program (LEP), conducts evaluations, and resolves internal concerns to maintain a healthy organizational environment. HR also strengthens community engagement and maintains connections with BMS alumni to support long-term organizational growth.
How do you address potential challenges in maintaining active engagement and participation of members throughout their time in the organization?
It's important to create events and activities that align with members' interests and provide them with growth opportunities in order to maintain their engagement. Open communication and frequent check-ins help to understand the needs they have and maintain their motivation. They also feel appreciated when their efforts and accomplishments are acknowledged. Finally, providing a variety of enjoyable and meaningful activities ensures that they remain interested and connected.
In addressing challenges in keeping members engaged through out the school year, I ensure to continuously brainstorm fresh ideas for events or icebreakers that would encourage members to create valuable connections with each other. Aside from generating new ideas for ice breakers for the termly General Assemblies, my team and I were able to successfully implement a F2F event for BMS Central, which was aimed at fostering relationships among members through games and bonding activities. Our efforts in crafting engaging events for the members' well-being and development are part of our commitment to promoting inclusivity, innovation, and collaboration among BMS as a whole.
As an officer in the membership committee, we make it a priority to build real, meaningful connections with our members by understanding what matters to them and creating a space where they feel they belong. It’s about listening to their stories, celebrating their efforts, and making sure they know they’re an important part of the organization. When members feel genuinely seen and supported, they’re more inspired to stay involved and grow with us.
To address potential challenges in maintaining active engagement, some strategies that I implement are creating a welcoming environment during events such as the General Assembly, encouraging officers and hosts to actively engage with members, and personally reaching out to members to join BMS events. It is most important to foster a welcoming environment within the organization by creating genuine connections between officers and members. Building a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect ensures that every member feels heard, appreciated, and motivated to actively participate in organizational activities.
To prevent potential challenges from arising, it is important to build strong relationships among members and ensure everyone feels valued and included. This can be achieved by fostering a sense of belonging through offering diverse opportunities for involvement, such as events tailored to connection-building. Additionally, creating spaces for open communication would allow members to voice their ideas thus further strengthening their participation within the organization.
I prioritize taking proactive steps to prevent potential challenges from arising. I make it a point to connect with members during events or whenever I recognize a BMS member. My goal is to ensure they feel welcome, valued, and supported, creating a safe and inclusive environment within BMS.
How do you encourage collaboration among members with varying skill levels and experiences during workshops or training events?
There isn't a specific approach to encourage collaboration among members with diverse skill levels. Usually, it has to be a mix of instances where these members are free to explore, express, and participate. By organizing fun activities within a balanced team of members and mentors, the participants of these said events can naturally learn from each other through collaboration. It is also important to structure activities that aren't just fun but also designed to leverage these members' different strengths and interests, by creating tasks that require multiple skill sets to complete. Lastly, the most crucial element in fostering meaningful collaboration is establishing a supportive environment where curiosity is celebrated and mistakes are viewed as valuable learning opportunities, achieved by working closely with mentors and event leaders to create an atmosphere where questions are encouraged.
Challenges centering on the varying skill sets of members is highly expected in any collaborative focused event. The simple secret to encouraging collaboration despite the hurdles is to organize activities that require constant communication among members and allows them to share a little bit about themselves. This opens up a pathway to build a foundation of trust and connection with each other, which allows for more effective communication and sharing of perspectives. Moreover, it aids to create activities that have both a mixture of difficult and easy tasks so each person with a varying skill level can contribute while witnessing first-hand how other people are working on their respective tasks as well. This allows for all members to learn from one another and through their contributions, feel valued as part of the team.
We encourage collaboration among members by creating activities that have multiple solutions to them. That way the participants are given the freedom to think creatively and aren't constrained to a single solution where one skillset is more relevant than the others.
When collaborating with people with different skillsets and experiences, I find it important to allow each member in our committee, including myself, to focus on areas where we excel. This approach fosters unity as each member is able to compensate for another ones weakness in specific aspects. By using our strengths, we can work together seamlessly.
Despite this, we also try to explore opportunities to work on areas where we are less experiences. By doing so, we ensure good communication and mutual support which allows us to grow together and achieve success as a committee!
I usually encourage collaboration by pairing members with complementary strengths so they can learn from each other. I also emphasize open communication and allow members to share their insights or ask questions, which helps build trust and fosters teamwork. It’s really about making sure no one feels left out, and everyone sees the value in working together.
As an Assistant Vice President for Training and Development, I encourage collaboration amongst BMS members through cultivating an environment that centers around open communication and building genuine connections. All throughout the workshops, simulations, and training events, the committee believes that it is crucial to bring the Junior Officers (JOs) out of their comfort zones while still catering to each of their diverse capabilities. These initiatives widens the JOs' opportunity to adapt new skillsets through mutual learning, meaningfully connecting, and purposefully collaborating with their peers and mentors.
