Dr. Vermillion graduated from Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin where he was very active in band, chorus, and orchestra. He earned Associates degrees from McHenry County College and Elgin Community College, his Bachelors from Elmhurst College, and a Masters in Music Education with a focus in choral conducting from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. Most recently, he earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from Northern Illinois University.
Before joining District 100 in 2005, Dr. Vermillion worked in various schools in northern Illinois teaching vocal, instrumental, and general music. Additionally, he has had the opportunity to work abroad in other countries including Jamaica, Brazil, France, and Canada to name a few.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Vermillion is passionate about music theatre. He has performed in several shows including West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, The Baker's Wife, Godspell, and Phantom of the Opera. He has directed dozens of shows including Once Upon a Mattress, The Secret Garden, Willy Wonka, Honk!, Seussical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Guys and Dolls, Shrek the Musical, Peter Pan, and others.
Outside of school, Dr. Vermillion enjoys traveling, studying a collection of 66 books, spending time with his family, taking in the cinema, and writing music. He is a Disney fanatic; his favorite animated motion picture is The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Dr. Vermillion teaches Freshman Chorus, Mixed Chorus, Show Choir, Acappella, and Choraliers at Belvidere North High School.
