Priority Standards

MU:Pr6.1.Ib: Demonstrate technical accuracy and expressive qualities, as well as an understanding of expressive intent, in prepared and improvised performances of a varied repertoire of music representing diverse cultures, styles, and genres.

MU:Pr4.1.IIb: Document, demonstrate, and analyze, using music reading skills, how compositional devices of musical works may impact and inform prepared and improvised performances.

MU:Pr5.1.IIa: Develop and apply criteria to critique individual and small-group performances of a varied repertoire of music, create rehearsal strategies to address performance challenges, and refine the performances.

MU:Pr6.1.IIa: Demonstrate understanding of the technical demands and an understanding of expressive qualities and intent of the music in prepared and improvised performances of a varied repertoire representing diverse cultures, styles, genres, and historical periods.

DA: Pr5.1.Ic: Collaborate with peers to establish and implement a rehearsal plan to meet performance goals. Use a variety of strategies to analyze and evaluate performances of self and others (for example, use video recordings of practice to analyze the difference between the way movements look and how they feel to match performance with visual affect). Articulate performance goals and justify reasons for selecting particular practice strategies.

Grading

It is our belief that every student is capable of achieving high levels of success in vocal music. Accordingly all students are expected to complete all activities and assignments. The following list represents a proposed sampling of assignments, projects, tasks, and other assessments that may change with notice:

2250-2500 = A

2000-2250 = B

1750-1999 = C

1500-1749 = D

-1499 = F

SEMESTER 1

2500 points possible as follows:

-Rehearsal Strategies 900 points total

-Concert: Fall Choral Concert 200 points

-Star-Spangled Banner Performance 50 points

-Performance Tests (singing and/or choreography) 250 points total

(NOTE: A test may be replaced by a community performance)

-Choir Journals 100 points total

-Two (2) Concert Reflection Essay 100 points each

-Concert: “Winter” Choral Concert 200 points

-Choreography Project 100 points

-Written tests (theory, musicology, etc.) 500 points total

SEMESTER 2

2500 points possible as follows:

-Rehearsal Strategies 900 points total

-Concert: Pops Concert 200 points

-Comprehensive Singing Test 100 points

-Other Performance Tests (singing/choreography) 200 points total

-Choir Journals 100 points total

-Two (2) Concert Reflection Essays 100 points each

-Concert: Awards Night 200 points

-IHSA Organizational Contest 100 points

(these points will convert to test/performance if the ensemble does not participate in IHSA)

-Written tests (theory, musicology, etc.) 500 points total
