RETIRING STAFF IN SPORTS
Mr.Hiegel has served the DHS community for 38 years, specifically hired to be a soccer coach. Soon after Mac computers were introduced to Deerfield High School he found a job there as the supervisor in the computer lab. Growing up in the Congo, Hiegel has developed a long relationship with soccer.
For most of his time at Deerfield Highschool, Mr. Hurtig has been an English teacher specific to the class "Nature of Competition." Outside of school, Hurtig lead the entire soccer program for many years under his motto of "ganas" which means a players desire to achieve.
Beyond his 31 years of being a locker room supervisor, he was an integral part of the Deerfield High School Football program helping out with equipment as well as coaching the Freshman team. He loved to support every single Deerfield athletic team emphasizing his creation of all the display boards of celebration in the exhibition gym.

Men's Basketball player at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Class of 2020)
Brandon Lieb plays Center and is currently a Sophomore at UIUC.
Duje Dukan was born in Split, Croatia, and moved to Deerfield shortly after. Dukan played basketball at Deerfield and went on to play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2015, Dukan signed with the Sacramento Kings and soon after started to play in the G-league. In 2019, Dukan joined the Spanish basketball league (LEB Oro) and now currently plays for Caceres Ciudad del Baloncesto in Caceres, Spain.
Donald Blome is a United States diplomat currently serving as the ambassador to Tunisia. Blome worked as an attorney in Chicago prior to becoming diplomat in 1993. Blome has served in Tunisia, Afghanistan, Israel, Kuwait, and Egypt. In 2021, President Joseph Biden nominated Blome to be the next US ambassador to Pakistan.
Loukas grew up in Riverwoods and became very committed to Coho at a young age. Loukas attended Indiana University and became an eight-time NCAA All-American athlete. Loukas went on to participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics winning 9th and 8th place respectively in the Women's 3 meter springboard.
