Academic Support - the WERCS & ARC
“Finding Help, Students are never alone” - a 1989 article from Deerprints led to this information:
In programs similar to the math and english ARC, the school provided Early Bird Tutor programs, and WERCS programs to specifically help freshmen in need of writing help. The inclusion of these programs into an article within the yearbook was very interesting, serving as a way to show parents that students have outlets of help, and a way for students to see their options when in need of academic assistance. Programs like these are still relevant in Deerfield, as more and more people utilize the specialized help that the ARC can provide. Although there have been some modifications to the student tutoring and help programs over the years, the overlying principles are the same. Deerfield High School is here to make sure students have the resources and necessary outlets for success. A combination of previous institutions and programs of help make up the math and English Academic Resource Centers we have today, using the systems that the history of DHS created years ago.
