This page contains the major developments in the building and grounds of Deerfield High School. You can also link to a page describing the specific changes in the DHS Courtyard, and we will be adding information about sculptures and other artifacts around the school. Did you know that DHS has had at least two artists-in-residence? They include Skye (Sharon Halford 1989-1995) whose sculpture Touching the Spirit (1995) is in the natural courtyard opposite the auditorium, and Eric Blome (1995-2000), whose sculpture of MLK currently is in the front hall (a miniature replica, 1998 original in Milwaukee).

1959 - Completed Construction of High School Building
Lois and David Marks had one of their early dates at the school’s dedication. David worked as an architect with Loebl, Schlossman and Bennett. A few years later, they decided to make Deerfield their home. They will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary along with DHS, the high school of their children and grandchildren.
1959 - The design for the school by Loebl, Schlossman and Bennett began to be realized when Joseph J. Duffy Co. contracted to build the school. By the fall, most of the concrete had been poured and structural steel erected.
1966 - 1967 - G-Hall & I-Hall Expansions
Construction work on the expansion of DHS included conversion of G-hall English and I-hall Math classrooms into science laboratories; expansion of Counseling into I-hall, conversion of C-100 into a health classroom, and enlarging the PE locker room space; new construction included an expanded Library, PE gyms, new classrooms for English east of F-hall, and math classrooms in Q-hall, and a new cafeteria and bus lobby. E114 and E116 became Team Teaching rooms, and a closed-circuit TV system was put into the math rooms, PE gymnastics and dance areas.
1994 - 1995 - Parking Lot
The driving range was converted to a parking lot, and separate sections of all lots were demarcated for staff
1995 - 1996 - Building Changes
Short bookcases helped to create separate class spaces for the Library. WDHS studio gained a makeover. To help with their increase reliance on new technology, staff got a dedicated computer lab (the FRAT) next to the Library. A Science lab for classes was installed at J103.
