At the Junior High level, students will continue their skills on their instruments by learning to read more notes that are included in repretoire that is more challenging. This will include a large range of flats and sharps on the instrument. Students playing Violin and Cello will regularly work in 3rd position, and students who play Viola will move into reading Treble clef along with occasionally shifting into third position as well. Students should be able to read music in the keys of C, G, D, F, and Bb Major. Below, you will find links to the natural notes on each open string of your instrument. The fastest way to learn all of these notes is by practicing them by individual strings (these will NOT have any sharps as they are in their natural state). Once you have learned the notes on each string, click on "All notes in D, G, C , F and Bb Major". This exercise will add in sharps , flats, or naturals to the notes and add in key signatures to test your knowledge on all of the notes possible for these keys (this exercise will NOT include any third position notes for Violin, Viola, or Cello). Watch closely for the key signature changes and changes with accidentals!
(Practice these about 5 minutes a day).
