Google Classroom
Students will be utilizing Google Classroom to complete assignments for different music theory concepts we will be learning throughout the school year. An invite will be sent to your student's SCHOOL email address to access the assignments. Parents/Guardians will also receive an invite sent to their emails to receive reports on student work completion.
In Intermediate Orchestra, we will continue learning more notes on our instruments and expanding past reading mostly on the D and A strings (G for Bass). It is important for students to be able to read all of the notes in first position (third for Bass), as the musical repertoire will begin to include more notes on the instrument. Below, you will find links to the natural notes on each open string of your instrument. The fastest way to learn all of these notes is by practicing them by individual strings (these will NOT have any sharps as they are in their natural state). Once you have learned the notes on each string, click on "All notes in D, G, and C Major". This exercise will add in sharps or naturals to the notes and add in key signatures to test your knowledge on all of the notes possible for these three keys. Watch closely for the key signature changes and changes with accidentals!
(Practice these about 5 minutes a day).
Part of playing a musical instrument is being able to identify which key signature a piece of music is written in. Key signatures tell us what notes to play in a specific scale. The key signature reminds the performer which sharps or flats are in the scale (key) of the piece. This also prevents the composer or arranger from writing every sharp or flat from the scale every time it occurs in the piece. The quicker a musician is able to identify these keys, the quicker they will be able to accurately perform a piece of music. Students in Intermediate Orchestra should be able to identify C, G, and D, F, and Bb Major.
(Practice these about 5 minutes a day).
