A strong transformation plan unifies the vision for technology integration and device maintenance with the school improvement plan or goals for the year.
Guiding questions:
How did you use data to inform your student-centered goals and action steps?
When preparing our action planner document, we reviewed relevant data from such digital learning sources as the Teacher Technology Survey (TTS) and TIM-O data from the prior year. Additionally, we reviewed and incorporated staff and student feedback from the Panorama survey, district goals as outlined in the strategic operating plan, and the school's student assessment data from NWEA MAP, SBAC and NGSS assessments.
How did the teachers, students, and families contribute to your plan?
Teachers
Feedback from Panorama survey
Results from TTS
Participation from Teacher Leader Corps (TLC)
Participation from Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)
Students
Feeback from Panorama survey
Assessment data
Participation from Student Tech Team (STT)
Families
Panorama survey
Participation from School Governance Council (SGC)
Guiding questions:
Explain how the artifacts align with accomplishing the action steps described in the Action Planner.
The artifacts shown below demonstrate the dedication to accomplishing the goals outlined in our action planner through necessary actions and with a sense of urgency. They also show evidence of a shift toward staff empowerment and buy-in from all stakeholders, rather then simply by the principal, coach, or other school leaders.
What is your progress on the action steps?
Although the action planner established year-long goals, all action steps had been actualized by the mid-point in the 2022-2023 school year. We have remained diligent in implementing these actions not only to create a sense of urgency but also to focus on long-term growth and sustainability, especially as we applied for and have been granted VIlS extension status for the next two years.
What systems have you put in place to create flexibility to adapt and change the plan?
One of the most effective systems that has been in place more consistently this year has been holding weekly meetings between the principal and VILS coach. Additionally, regular meetings of the Instructional Leadership Team along with faculty and TLC meetings have also provided opportunities for seeking feedback and input, and to create flexibility to adapt and revise the action planner as necessary.
Action Step 1: Students enrolled in the “Robotics” class will engage in the coding curriculum during their related arts block every other day for one semester.
Action Step 2: Ms. Charles will be provided with training from DE and check-ins from Dr. Kreiness on implementing the coding curriculum
Action Step 1: Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Kreiness will participate in a live stream during morning announcements to discuss device care and demonstrate how to install new clamshell cases
Action Step 2: The student tech team will create resources on digital wellness that will include device care and be published as visuals/graphics as well as segments on live morning announcements
Action Step 3: We will conduct regular (at least quarterly) device checks when homeroom teachers will account for the device asset ID, condition of device and charger status
Action Step 1: Dr. Kreiness creates an email message that can be sent to families of new students with the link to the online MOU and has it translated into Spanish
Action Step 2: Dr. Kreiness works with guidance secretary on system for sending MOU email
Action Step 3: Guidance secretary works with front office secretaries on system for collecting devices back from departing students
Action Step 1: Three VILS synchronous learning experiences throughout the school year
Action Step 2: PLC/Teacher Teams, and faculty meetings - work around book study of “Teach Like a Champion”
Action Step 3: Ongoing instructional support and coaching from literacy, math, and digital learning coaches as well as improvement teachers
Self Reflection on the Element: (Choose one: Emerging, Aligning, or Optimizing)
Optimizing
Strengths: How did your campus exemplify illustrating this element?
Strengths in this element include the evidence that for every one of the goals we included in our action planner, each of the action steps had already been implemented by MOY. This was seen in the implementation of our coding class, steps that were taken to limit Chromebook repairs, new systems for distributing and collecting devices, and professional development efforts around improving instruction to increase students' access to high quality, engaging, and personalized instruction aligned with the UDL framework.
Next Steps: What could you have done differently to better align with this element?
We will continue to reach out to the representatives from Discovery Education to provide support, especially with the coding curriculum.
