How has technology access impacted student learning at your campus?
WRMS Students are learning new digital tools on a regular basis as well as being exposed to more opportunities for being content creators rather than consumers. Some of the most popular digital tools that students have been introduced to and working with are Google Slides and Google Sites, Adobe Creative Cloud Express, Book Creator, WeVideo, Soundtrap, Minecraft Edu, Gizmos, Scratch and more!
How are students given voice and choice to demonstrate how they leverage technology to learn?
Staff are working on providing students with more choice when it comes to using technology in their projects and demonstrating their mastery of content. The more students are being introduced to new tools and applications, the more choice they have to create their own projects of choice. Students are getting more opportunities for digital collaboration which creates more student empowerment and ownership over their own learning. It also allows teachers to become more of the facilitators of the learning.
What are the needs of your community and how are you meeting them?
WRMS provides a unique opportunity for many of its students to participate in a dual language program. WRMS also has a significant population of Multi Language Learners (MLL). Therefore, special consideration is being taken to introduce digital tools to make learning more accessible for students and for information to be better communicated to students and their families.
Are the systems and processes accessible for multilingual families and students?
WRMS has adapted many of its resources and policies to cater to being more accessible for MLL students and their families. For example, when families enroll their child at the school, the VILS MOU is supplied along with other onboarding materials which are available in multiple languages. Additionally, the weekly email newsletter is sent to families in multiple languages. Furthermore, WRMS has an ample amount of bilingual staff available in our main office, counseling office, and among our certified and non-certified staff.
How do you offer choice and voice to your families?
WRMS has both a thriving PTO and School Governance Council with opportunities for families to engage in PTO-sponsored meetings and events as well as a Facebook group that is open to the PTO, parents, and staff. Along with the weekly newsletter, WRMS along with all NPS schools has been working to improve our social media presence. WRMS has active accounts on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
How are you promoting diversity and inclusion when selecting members of your student tech team?
All students have the opportunity to join the Student Tech Team regardless of their tech skills or leadership experience, with priority given to students who are part of the WRMS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. There will be a variety of tasks offered and members of the team can sign up for which task(s) they are most interested in and feel most comfortable doing. We want all students to feel included as long as they are willing to commit to signing up for some tasks.
