College+Career Planning

PDHS' College + Career Center is designed to provide resources for all students in their preparation for life after high school, inclusive of all career and education pathways and plans.

Counselors work closely with PDHS' College and Career Specialist to help students learn about their interests and about options after high school, and make a plan to pursue those goals.

Hello Aztecs!

My name is Ms. April Rubio and I am the College and Career advisor at Palm Desert High School. I look forward to being able to meet with you and discuss your future plans around college, career, interests and more! As a PDHS alumni, it is so exciting to help current students discover what they want their future to look like and the excitement that comes with planning for life after high school. I am currently in a Master's Program to become a school counselor and am gaining incredible experience in the College and Career Center. My office is located inside the library and I am available to meet with students before, during and after school hours, with or without an appointment.

Please stop by and say hello!

The process of planning for life after high school is called College and Career Planning. College and Career planning helps identify student strengths (skills, talents, values, and interests) and provides an understanding as to how strengths align with or match different jobs or careers.

Students in Desert Sands Unified Schools have access to planning tool on CaliforniaColleges.edu (often referred to as CCGI) that provides students with an all-inclusive guide for their college+career paths and allows both students and educators to track student progress toward their college+career planning.

Steps involved in College + Career planning:

Step #1- Explore Your Interests-- Find your strengths by completing the Interest Profiler on the CaliforniaColleges.edu  website (You must log in with your district-issued @myds account to save your results)

Step #2- Explore Careers that you've been matched with after completing the Interest Profiler from step #1.

Step #3- Explore Colleges- Determine the level of education necessary for the career you're interested in. Check out the resources for Virtual College Tours below!

Step #4- Make a decision about which career to pursue

Step #5- Make a Plan using SMART Goals
