2025 IN REVIEW

SADDLE UP

LQ Track and Field completed their first meet of the year at the Saddle Up Invitational at Vista Murrieta High School Saturday. The Blackhawks competed against 31 schools in both Varsity and Frosh/Soph divisions for girls and boys. The Blackhawks compiled overall medals between all levels and will compete this Saturday in the Sparta Relays at San Gorgonio High School

The girls 4x800 won the event with a 9:33.90 ( a new LQHS school record) which is currently ranked #6 in CAL (Alyssa Lopez, Taylor Leon, Raisa Guerrero, Saverah Guerro)

The same group ran the Distance Medley 4k in 12:37.99 and placed 4th but also ranked in CAL at #15

The boys 4x800 broke the LQHS school record in a time of 7:59.81 placing 2nd . The time ranks them 7th in CAL. (Angel Lerena, Rudy Mendoza, Jorge Mendoza and Luis Martinez)

Other placers:

Girls 4x400 relay placed 3rd in the open division in a season best 4:07 (9th overall) (Sienna Coffin, Leon, Guerro, Guerreo)

Boys 4x400 won the open race and placed third overall in 3:23.55 which is 24th in the state (Angel Lerena, Aidan Simo, Luis Martinez, Rudy Mendoza)

Boys 4x100 won the open race in an LQHS school record time of 42.31 taking 4th overall (Simon Simonian, Aiden Nsubuga, Aidan Simo, Major Hinchen

Major Hinchen broke his own school record placing second in the open division and 7th overall 10.81.

Five La Quinta athletes and five relays meet the "consideration" qualifying marks for the prestigious Arcadia Invitational which begins Friday April 11th.

La Quinta Boys and Girls are both 3-0 in DEL and compete against Rancho Mirage Thursday. If all plays out as expected it will be Shadow VS LQHS for the league title at La Quinta April 17th.

LQHS T&F competed at the Sparta Relays Saturday. LQHS took home first place boy's team Varsity and 2nd place frosh soph. and 2nd place for the girls team. The boys long jump and triple jump relays set SCHOOL RECORDS in the events along with first place finishes.

COUGAR CLASSIC-Beaumont High School

At the Beaumont Cougar Classic, the LQHS track and field team won their second track invitational of the year. The frosh soph boys took first while the varsity boys, varsity girls and frosh soph girls took home second place. There were over 20 teams who participated.

FOUR FROSH SOPH RECORDS BROKEN!!

#1 400 meters: Angel Lorena break his new F/S record just a bit to go 51.47 taking first place

#2 4x100 meter team of Norton, Murdica, Simo and Hinchen take down a pretty solid record at 43.95

#3 3200m F/S record WAS M. Torres but NOW owned by Luis Martinez (10:01.12)

#4 Long Jump record claimed by Aidan Simo at 21'-0.25"!!! Best jump of ANYONE at the meet today (including VARSITY).

MT CARMEL ASICS CLASSIC

The LQHS track and field team traveled to Mt Carmel High School 3/23/25 and competed against ONE HUNDRED high schools.

The 4x800 Team broke the school record during this event and are hopeful to get into the prestigious Arcadia Invitational Track Meet April 5-6 with their qualifying time.

There were three different divisions that were based on qualifying entry times. Top five places medaled.

Girls Varsity:

4x800m relay: first place (9:36.21) Raisa Guerrero, Saveryra Guerrero, Alyssa Lopez, Taylor Leon SCHOOL RECORD

LQHS track and field team traveled to the Inland Empire Championships at Vista Murrieta High School on Saturday. Kameron Hawkins took third in the triple jump and set a new LQHS school record with a jump of 44'-06.5". The frosh soph boys team placed third out of over 45 high school teams and broke one F/S Record

2026 Team info: We will have our first MANDATORY meetings for the upcoming season. Rookies at lunch in the gym on Monday 11/10 and Veterans Wednesday 11/12. If you cannot attend for any reason make sure you contact Coach Ansley PRIOR to the meetings. As always, our season schedule is ALREADY POSTED below;)

ROOKIE INFORMATIONAL MEETING: Thursday November 20th at 5:30PM at the front of the school; upstairs staff lounge.

Practice starts Friday December 12th at 4PM. You MUST be cleared with a sports physical and athletic clearance to participate (https://lqathletics.com/athletic-clearance-information/ ) AND you MUST BE REGISTERED (registration will be offered during office hours starting Thursday December 3rd in room 407 for Veterans. Spirit Packs will be sold while supplies last to rookies.

Registration dates: All registrations will be done during office hours up until our first practice in room 407. Do not send paper work to coaches any other time for any reason. All papers needed are at bottom of this web page. GRADE SHEET MUST BE SIGNED BY a Parent/Guardian.
Veterans: December 3rd Room 407 after school and during office hours 12/4. After school December 11th for clean up crew applicants.

Rookies: December 5th after school room 407. Office hours 11th and January 6th

Parent Rookie Meeting is Thursday November 20th 5:30PM upstairs in the staff lounge at the front of the high school.

Check in for practice begins at 4PM Friday December 12th and Monday December 15th. There may be some "optional" workouts offered over winter break. We will resume "mandatory" practices the week of January 5th which will also offer 6:45AM Wt room workouts on Tuesdays and Fridays. These will be MANDATORY for Varsity Athletes that do not have a wt training class through mid February. Weight training is "optional" for the rest of the team and is also used to make up missed practices so you are eligible to compete in meets.

Any RETURNER who does not participate in a practice by 1/9/26 will not be allowed to come out for the team this 2026 season.

Make sure you check with the Athletic Department to see if you are cleared. If you can't get in to see you personal doctor try an urgent care or a chiropractor such as Dr. Dosen or Gonstead Chiropractic for a "sports physical".

Remember you must first:

JANUARY PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Mondays will be at 6:15AM, Wednesday 3:30 and Friday 4PM)

Wt room workouts 6:45AM Tuesdays and Fridays are "optional" unless you are a Varsity returner without a wt room class.

We will NOT have mandatory practices on Friday 1/16 or 1/19. Both days may offer "bank" practice options depending on your primary event.

Full week practices will begin January 26th

We are heading to Red Robin for a small fundraiser and to celebrate the start of the season!

If you cannot make these dates above that were listed in November then you will not remain on the team.
