Instructional Supervision is a professional continuous and cooperative process for the improvement of instruction. It is characterized by guidance, assistance, sharing of ideas, facilitation, or creation to help teachers improve learning situation and quality of learning in the schools. It is hand holding for a professional colleague with an instructional leader who possesses superior knowledge and skills and who work collaboratively in a school environment that nurtures the development of professional learning community.
Along with the policy of DepED, WCSAT conforms the conduct of its Instructional Supervision to guide its instructional leaders , school principal, master teachers, head teachers and teachers. It undergoes proper procedures to prepare all concerned with the needed materials, tools and forms to avoid conflict and misinterpretation in the conduct of instructional supervision.
School instructional supervision includes the preparation of a monthly supervisory plan of head teachers and master teachers along with the annual supervisory plan of the school principal. This will be the basis in the conduct of instructional supervision and technical assistance.
In the monthly supervisory plan, the teacher’s preference on the schedule of supervision is taken into consideration but it should not affect the general supervisory program and compromise the required number of observation per teacher, which is 4 times in a school year as mandated by the RPMS-PPST.
The instructional supervision intends to observe and gather data on the development needs of teachers and a pre-conference and a post conference will be conducted by the rater/observer and ratee to help improve teaching learning delivery.
Currently, schools are in a tight situation because of the effect of the global pandemic brought by Covid19. As such, the procedure and implementation of instructional supervision goes online because of the no face to face policy of the department. Thereby, instructional supervision is currently dubbed as Virtual School and Home Observation (VS@HO) where the teaching learning and observation happens via Google Meet. Teachers can also use other platforms for their COT such as pre recorded video presentations, podcasts, radio-based instruction and others.
