The story of Bignay National High School began in 2003, driven by the national initiative of the Department of Education and then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to establish a school in every barangay. Inspired by this vision, the principal of Bignay Elementary School, Mr. Eduardo Q. Lita, took the lead in initiating the creation of a secondary school in Barangay Bignay. In coordination with the then-Schools Division Superintendent, the new institution was established as an annex of Valenzuela National High School.
In 2004, Valenzuela National High School – Bignay Annex officially opened its doors to students.
The school’s foundation was made possible through the combined efforts of local barangay officials and the support of the City Government of Valenzuela, under the leadership of then-Mayor Jose Emmanuel L. Carlos. The initial enrollment included 67 students in the Bridge Program, 154 first-year students, and 221 second and third-year students. With only five dedicated high school teachers and Dr. Vicente Tablate as the first Teacher-In-Charge, classes were held within the premises of Bignay Elementary School.
As the school entered its second year in School Year 2005–2006, it became administratively independent from the elementary school. Mrs. Lagrimas Bayle served as Officer-in-Charge from May to August 2005, followed by Mr. Cesar C. Villareal from August 2005 to March 2006. That same year, enrollment surged to 885 students, largely due to the relocation of families affected by the government’s Northrail Project from various parts of Valenzuela, including Karuhatan, Malinta, Dalandanan, and Malanday. The teaching staff grew to 14 to accommodate the increasing student population.
In June 2006, Ms. Grace L. Pascua assumed the role of Officer-in-Charge. Under her leadership, the number of teachers continued to grow, reaching 24 by the start of School Year 2007–2008. By 2008, the school had 1,127 enrolled students, 10 academic classrooms, and 29 teachers, marking a period of steady development.
A significant milestone was reached when the school moved to its current location in Gitna Street, Barangay Bignay, occupying a 7,733-square-meter lot. This new campus was made possible through Resolution No. 004, Series of 2007, passed by the Valenzuela City Council. Spearheaded by then-Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian, a 17-classroom building was constructed, and the school was equipped with 50 computer units, a spacious activity center, and a new canteen. To meet the needs of a growing student population from Bignay and nearby barangays, two more buildings were eventually added to the campus.
On July 17, 2009, a new chapter began for the school when former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Republic Act 9660, officially converting the Valenzuela National High School - Bignay Annex into an independent national high school: BIGNAY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.
The school continued to be at the forefront of educational development in Valenzuela City. It was among the first public high schools to offer Senior High School starting in School Year 2016–2017. In December 2016, a separate high school was established at Disiplina Village – Bignay, initially operating under the name Bignay National High School – Disiplina Village Annex. On August 23, 2018, it gained full independence and was officially renamed Disiplina Village – Bignay National High School through Republic Act 11074.
In recent years, the school has continued to make significant progress. In 2023, construction of the Gatchalian Building resumed through the efforts of Mayor Weslie T. Gatchalian, and by 2024, 10 new classrooms were opened.
