“Be a vigilante." Natural calamities come just like the thief in the night. No one can predict it. So, be prepared always. Earthquake is one of the famous disasters that cause people to die or injured. This mostly happened in places where people are hanging around and working.

In compliance to the memorandum issued by the Department of Education, National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is being done in every public or private school in the country. Mabuno Elementary School conducted the earthquake drill on March 2, 2021 inside the school campus. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, teachers and parents were the participants in the drill. There was a brief discussion about the objectives of the activity and show the proper action and response during earthquake. Instructions were given to them before the actual performance. At exactly 9 o’clock in the morning, when the first 30- second alarm, the teachers and parents started to seek shelter and protect themselves wherever they were situated. They also performed duck, cover and hold under the table, chair or remained in such position until the shocking stop. After that, the participants started to perform the evacuation procedure. Teachers and parents started to go out and look for a safe place. They would not run; they would not shout but they must stay calm and walk faster than the normal way they do.

As the teachers and parents performed the drill, they felt as it is really happening. Teachers and parents did their best to portray their roles especially the proper actions and responses during earthquake. As always remembered #BidaAngHanda!#sltabrilla

Believing that planning is the key to effective disaster prevention, Mabuno Elementary School, Gattaran East District conducted the 1^st Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on February 21, 2020.

Its objectives were to evaluate the readiness and awareness of learners and DepEd personnel for earthquakes and to evaluate the coordination and communication mechanisms during evaluation procedure and response.

The said activity had a short symposium with the different topics discussed by the teachers as well as the school head. Objectives of Earthquake Drill was discussed by Mrs. Agnes G. Garo, Master Teacher I, Fire Safety was also talked-over by Mrs. Virginia A. Corpuz, Teacher III, Using the Fire Extinguisher was also presented by Mrs. Jennifer G. Damaso, Teacher III, What to do Before, During and After Earthquake was the topic explained by Mrs. Sherwin L. Tabrilla, Teacher III, Basic First Aid for Wound and Burn was expounded by Mrs. Edlyn E. Bayaca, Teacher III, Patient/Casualty Handling by Mrs. Rhodalyn M. Juan, Teacher III and Bandaging by Mr. Reynaldo C. Alejo, Head Teacher III.

Earthquake drill followed after the symposium. Pupils and teachers practiced the “Duck, Cover and Hold” in their respective classrooms and in going to the evacuation area to evaluate whether the pupils as well as the teachers were ready in case an earthquake occurs in the locality.

The activity ended with a lot of learning. This only shows that Mabuno Elementary School participates with the DRRMC advocacy, that is to “Get involved, Pro active, Coordinate and Capacitate.#eebayaca
