Plot Summary from the author's website www.miracanion.com:

Pablo Picasso’s mural Guernica is on display at the 1937 International Exposition. Both sides of the Spanish Civil War quickly realize that the painting contains clues to the whereabouts of the supernatural Spear of Destiny. Its occult power can change the outcome of the Civil War, just as it has done in other battles throughout history. As Paula’s imagination begins to decipher the hidden symbols, Francisco Franco’s secret agents are not far behind her. They are ready to capture the Spear at the most opportune moment, convinced that impulsive Paula will betray her quest for the Spear.

Vocabulario: guapa/o = good -looking, leyenda = legend, porque = because, quiere = wants

Vocabulario: observa = observes, símbolos = symbols, quieren = they want, la Lanza = the lance or spear

Mario observa a Paula. Mario le dice a Javier. "Paula es guapa. Superguapa." Javier le pega a Mario el brazo.

They read an account of the famous Picasso painting LA GUERNICA.

Capítulo 4

Students acted out this scene:

Paula y Luis caminan hacia el café. Javier y Mario caminan detrás de Paula y Luis. Caminan detrás de Paula y Luis en secreto. Paula y Luis no observan a Javier. No observan a Mario.

Mario quiere tomar fotos de Paula. Javier quiere fotos de la investigación,

Cáracteres (Characters):

Paula - agente secreto buena, tiene pelo largo y negro, es muy guapa, observa símbolos, es amiga de Luis

Luis - agente secreto bueno, es impaciente, su papá es político en España, es amigo de Paula

Mario - agente secreto de Francisco Franco, observa mucho a Paula, es romántico, es pequeño, es guapo

Javier - agente secreto de Francisco Franco, es cruel, no es inteligente, es serio, no es popular con las chicas, no es guapo

Students act out:

Paula y Luis van en coche a Barcelona. Mario y Javier van detrás de Paula y Luis. P y L van al Parque Guell. Paula mira el papel con las observaciones. Javier le dice a Mario, " Quiero fotos del papel!"

Mario observa a Paula. Paula observa a Mario. Paula observa que Mario es muy guapo.

Práctica: ¿De dónde eres? = Where are you from? Soy de . . . = I am from . . . .
