Mr. Davis believes that when students feel safe, seen, and supported, they can go anywhere—across the city on a bus, across the state on a field experience, and further in life than they ever imagined. As Director of Surveillance, Trips & Transportation, he is the steady, caring presence behind the scenes who keeps our campus secure, our buses on time, and our learning experiences beyond the classroom running smoothly.
In the area of surveillance and school safety, Mr. Davis leads with dignity and care. He maintains JYK’s safety protocols and camera systems, coordinates regular drills, and trains staff on de-escalation and trauma-informed responses. His approach balances vigilance with respect—protecting students’ privacy while ensuring a calm, predictable environment during arrival, dismissal, and transitions. He partners closely with school leaders and community responders to keep our plans proactive and our communication clear.
For trips and experiential learning, Mr. Davis makes real-world learning accessible to every student. He collaborates with teachers to align trips with curriculum, completes thorough risk assessments, and ensures chaperone preparation, medical readiness, and inclusive planning for all students—accounting for accessibility needs, dietary restrictions, costs, and language supports for families. From permission forms to bus departures, he is a compassionate organizer so students and staff can focus on discovery.
In transportation, Mr. Davis oversees routes, vendors, and drivers with an eye for punctuality and care. He designs efficient traffic flows for arrival/dismissal, monitors on-time performance, and keeps families informed with clear, timely updates—especially when weather or city traffic throws a curveball. His goal is simple: every child gets to school safely, calmly, and ready to learn.
Above all, Mr. Davis is approachable. You’ll find him greeting students at the curb, checking in with drivers, answering a parent’s question with patience, and celebrating a class heading out on a new adventure. His daily work advances JYK’s mission to nurture expeditionary, global learners—because safety and joyful logistics aren’t just operations; they’re acts of care.
Mr. Davis is the quiet engine behind JYK’s global learning program. Through a long-standing partnership with Explorica, he has designed and led international journeys that are safe, inclusive, and deeply educational—opening the world to our students in places like Canada, Costa Rica, Thailand, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Mexico, with more destinations on the horizon. His north star is simple: culture is best learned by living it—sharing meals, listening to local voices, and noticing the small, human details you can’t find in a textbook.
As the coordinator, Mr. Davis handles the full arc of each trip—from idea to touchdown home. He collaborates with teachers to align itineraries to curriculum (language, science, history, art), conducts thorough risk assessments, and works with Explorica to secure vetted guides, safe lodging, and reliable transportation. He leads clear, bilingual family info nights; organizes passport/ID check-ins and travel-consent documentation; builds payment plans and scholarship pathways so cost is never a barrier; and trains chaperones in trauma-informed supervision, emergency protocols, and cultural humility. On the ground, he manages real-time communication with families, dietary and accessibility needs, rooming lists, medication and medical forms, and contingency plans—so students and staff can stay present to each day’s learning.
To make every journey truly formative, Mr. Davis weaves in:
Pre-trip learning: country briefings, safety & etiquette, key phrases, and academic tie-ins.
Cultural immersion: neighborhood walks, markets, museums, school visits, local speakers, and community-led service experiences.
Student leadership: rotating “travel captain” roles, navigation practice, budgeting, and group reflection.
Daily reflection: journals, photo essays, and end-of-trip showcases for families and the school community.
Looking forward, Mr. Davis is expanding a pipeline of future destinations—prioritizing language immersion, environmental stewardship, and partnerships with schools and cultural centers abroad—so that each new cohort has a fresh window into the world.
In spirit and practice, his work carries forward our founder Ms. Kelley’s vision of “Experiences that will last a lifetime.”
