Weather-Related Procedures

School Cancellation

The superintendent is empowered to close the schools, delay starting time, or dismiss schools early in the event of severe weather or other emergencies that threaten the health, safety, or welfare of students. The superintendent shall use his/her judgment in allowing the completion of normal bus schedules on severe weather days. If the Douglas County School District is closed, all schools and programs in the District are closed (including Cloverleaf Home Education).

Delayed Start

Weather and road conditions may delay the start of the school day. When this happens, the district’s delayed schedule goes into effect. Cloverleaf locations will begin 90 minutes later than normal.

Early Dismissal

Bad weather may cause schools to dismiss early. We use the Emergency Contact Card to help students arrive home safely.

Delayed Dismissal

Weather conditions sometimes dictate that we hold students here at school beyond the normal dismissal time. This is particularly true when we have lightning and thunder in the area. While a delayed dismissal may be inconvenient, holding students is preferable to sending students outdoors when hazardous weather conditions exist. Parents may enter the school building during a delayed dismissal and pick up their children directly from classrooms when conditions are deemed safe. We use the Emergency Contact Card to help students find rides home if necessary. Once the storm passes, students still at school will be dismissed.
