Mr Ethan Tinley studied Chemistry at University College London (UCL), where he gained a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry. He then completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Secondary Science (Chemistry specialism) at UCL’s Institute of Education (IOE), where he was awarded a prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry Scholarship in recognition of his potential as a chemistry educator.

Mr Tinley has focused his career on teaching Chemistry at IGCSE and A Level, guiding students through challenging curricula and preparing them for future study in science, medicine, and engineering. A passionate advocate of evidence-informed practice, he is a Member of the Chartered College of Teaching (MCCT) and places particular emphasis on strategies such as spaced retrieval and assessment for learning (AfL) to support long-term student progress. Alongside his subject teaching, he leads Medics Club, helping students prepare for university applications, admissions tests, and interviews. As Head of Buckingham House, Mr Tinley takes pride in embedding DBS’s core values into the wider school curriculum. He is also a certified Mental Health First Aider, a keen advocate for diversity and inclusion, and a Pearson Examiner, bringing valuable assessment expertise into the classroom.

Outside school, Mr Tinley lives in Bangkok with his husband and their Siamese cat, Khao Nioa. They enjoy travelling, particularly to the north of Thailand to explore its food and coffee culture. He is also a keen CrossFit and Hyrox member, finding balance between the demands of teaching, fitness, and wellbeing.

Mrs Nicholson has over 20 years of experience as a Design and Technology teacher across both the UK state and independent education sectors, in addition to nine years teaching in outstanding international schools in Thailand. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in Design Craft from Staffordshire University.

Originally from Warwickshire, Mrs Nicholson has spent the past four years as Head of Technology and STEAM at an independent school in the south of England. Throughout her career, she has taught Design and Technology to students ranging from Reception through to Year 13, giving her extensive experience across all age groups and abilities.

Mrs Nicholson is passionate about design education and enjoys inspiring young people through practical learning experiences. She is dedicated to helping students realise their full potential by developing their problem-solving skills, creativity, resilience, and ability to collaborate effectively with others. Her teaching approach encourages innovation, confidence, and curiosity, both inside and outside the classroom.

Alongside her academic role, Mrs Nicholson places great importance on pastoral care and believes that strong, positive working relationships with pupils are central to a successful learning environment. She values taking the time to understand each student as an individual, fostering mutual respect and trust, and supporting pupils’ wellbeing and personal development as well as their academic progress.

Mr Talaat holds a BA in Economics and Management from the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, an MBA in Finance from the Solvay Business School (Université Libre de Bruxelles), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Environmental Economics from SOAS University of London. He also completed a PGCEi with the University of Nottingham and holds a Certificate in School Management and Leadership (CSML) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Since 2000, Mr Talaat has taught Economics and Business Studies at A-Level, IGCSE, and IB Diploma level in international schools in Egypt, Belgium, China, and Thailand. He is also an experienced examiner and Team Leader for IB Economics. His teaching emphasises conceptual clarity, applied analysis, and academic rigour, with frequent links to current affairs, economic data, and international case studies. In addition to classroom teaching, he has contributed to curriculum development and academic mentoring programmes to support student progression to university.

Outside of his professional work, Mr Talaat enjoys long-distance motorcycle touring across Southeast Asia. He also has a strong interest in languages and global affairs. He speaks English, Arabic, and French fluently, with additional working knowledge of Spanish. His broader interests include reading widely on economic history, policy, and development.
