A National conference titled, “Pharmacovigilance: Advancements in the safe drug development” was organized by Department of Biochemistry on 16^th and 17^th January 2020 at Vivekananda auditorium, Deshbandhu college under the convenorship of Dr. Kamana Singh, Associate professor, Department of Biochemistry and co-convenorship of Dr. Prabha Arya, Department of Biochemistry, Deshbandhu college. This conference was supported by UGC, DBT star college scheme and was organized with the help of IQAC Deshbandhu college, Delhi University.

Day-I

Inaugural Session

Conference was inaugurated by Honorable Chief Guest, Prof. Ramesh K. Goyal, Vice Chancellor, Delhi Pharmaceutical Science and Research University (DPSRU) and Guest of Honor, Dr. Jai Prakash, Senior Principal Scientific Officer, Secretary-cum-Scientific Director (In-Charge) and Officer-in-Charge, National Coordination Centre, Pharmacovigilance Programme of India, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (Ministry of Health) along with our patron, Dr. Rajiv Aggarwal, Principal, Deshbandhu College in presence of our valuable organizers, participants and audiences.

During his inaugural speech, Prof. Ramesh K. Goyal talked about, “Pharmacovigilance contributing to the safe drug development” and Dr. Jai prakash shed light on, “Current status of Pharmacovigilance program of India”.

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Nilanjan Saha, Head, Centre for Translational & Clinical Research at Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi gave his talk on, “Historical Perspective in Pharmacovigilance”. There were invited speakers from different fields including academics and industries, First invited talk was delivered by Dr. M. Wasif Khan, Evolvet Healthcare pvt Ltd. He talked about “Global status of Pharmacovigilance: Regulations perspective”. Second talk was delivered by Dr. Rajiv Tonk, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, DPSRU on, “Medication errors in Pharmacovigilance and its impact on public health”. There were posters / oral presentions by various students from different colleges were judged by our eminent guests and judges from other Department of college.

Day-II

Technical Session-III

In this session our invited speakers delivered their talks on various aspects of Pharmacovigilance. Dr. Vinay Kumar Patel, Pharmalex India Pvt. Ltd. Delivered a talk on, Adverse Drug Reactions, Incidences, Classification And Their Prevention. He shed light on various incidences of adverse drug reaction. Dr. R. S. Ray, Scientific Assistant, IPC, PvPI, gave his invited lecture on, Ministry of Health gave his talk on “Causality Assessment in Pharmacovigilance”. He discussed various means of causality assessment. Our third invited speaker for the day, Dr. Tapan Behl, Assistant Professor, From Chitkara University presented his talk on, “Effective communication in Pharmacovigilance” . In his talk he discussed the important role of the communication in Pharmacovigilance. Technical session III was stared with the oral presentations of the students and faculty from different academic institutions. They gave their oral presentations on different themes related to Pharmacovigilance.
