Insurance Coverage

Health Insurance

Required

Dartmouth requires all students to have primary health insurance

As an exchange student, you will be automatically enrolled and billed for Dartmouth-provided insurance (Dartmouth Student Group Health Plan, DSGHP) unless you submit a waiver at least one week before your first term at Dartmouth. J-1 visa holding exchange students are required to be enrolled in the DSGHP and cannot waive this coverage.

You will receive communications from Dartmouth College Health Services about this enrollment.

In a nutshell... 🐿️

Students on the DSGHP can receive some medical services from Dartmouth College Health Service (Dick's House) at no cost.

If a student needs more specialized or long-term care beyond what Dick's House can provide, they can receive relatively affordable care from in-network providers at local facilities. Dick's House can help refer students to other providers. Some medical services from other providers can be expensive, even with insurance.  Students should be aware of this if pursuing non-urgent treatments and care.

If a student needs prescription medicine they can be prescribed by the Dick's House and pay out-of-pocket for the medicine at a relatively affordable cost at a local pharmacy, including the pharmacy located on-campus in Dick's House.
