Head's Headline

It has been a busy start to 2023 at Croxley Danes with inter-house competitions taking place, external career talks for our year 10 and 11 students as well as a poignant assembly to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our under 13 girls’ football team who made it to the last 32 schools in the National School’s Football tournament. Unfortunately, our team lost on penalties but exemplified perfectly our school values of excellence, respect and trust.

I was delighted that we were able to accommodate our first in person Parent’s Evening for our Year 11 students on 25th January as well as our Year 9 students and parents on 7th February who have begun the exciting journey of deciding their GCSE options.

We have launched our Year 11 Exam Ready programme as we seek to provide further support to our Year 11 students in the run up to their final GCSE examinations this summer. Special thanks to our Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Dorrington and Head of KS4, Miss Webb who are overseeing this programme.

Finally, if you’re not following us on Twitter, please do! This is where you can keep up to date with the latest news and updates throughout the month.

London Central Mosque and St Paul's Cathedral

On Thursday 12th January GCSE Religious Studies students took a trip to London to visit London Central Mosque in Regents Park, and St Paul's Cathedral. Both trips enabled to students to explore aspects of their GCSE study up close, and we were able to interact with professionals from each faith, including a Q and A with the Canon Steward of St Paul's on some big topics, ranging from reproductive ethics to equal rights. The trip was well received and is set to become an annual event for RS students.

MFL A level day

On 30th January Ms Platt organised and took two students, Harriet W studying French and Katie I studying Spanish to St Pauls Girls School in Birmingham for a KS5 languages and business day. This was a joint trip with Ms Whitehead who is the Head of French at St Clement Danes and her seven students studying French, Spanish and German. Activities on the day included a career talk by Amnesty international, a group task that included planning and delivering a campaign in the target language to an audience as well as workshops on interpreting and making a successful presentation. Whilst it was a very early start, it was trip that much enjoyed by all.

PTA update

Following our AGM last week, we would like to thank all the attendees and extend a warm welcome to our new members. All parents/carers are welcome to attend our meetings and dates of forthcoming meetings will be posted on our twitter feed.

Our second-hand uniform sale on Saturday 4th February was very successful and we

raised an amazing £1285 for the school! This would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers, and the donations of uniform from the school community. Thank you. Our next sale will be in July, and any further donations of uniform will be gratefully

received.
