Head's Headline

We’ve had a busy spring term with students taking part in plenty of athletic achievements, extracurricular activities and doing a stellar job of being great school ambassadors. Year 9 have now made their GCSE option choices and Year 10 and 12 are currently busy preparing for their mocks taking place after the Easter holidays.

This year’s school production, The Addams Family, was a great success. Thank you to the staff, cast and crew for putting on such a fantastic performance showcasing their many talents. A special thank you to the Creative Arts Faculty for all their hard work in producing such a fantastic performance.

We’ve had so many sporting triumphs this term, including but not limited to, the Year 7 girls basketball team who became district champions and our Year 10 netball team who became the undefeated district tournament winners. Our Year 7 boys and girls athletics teams have had a great month, making it to the county final. Our Year 9 boys football team have done well, making it to the county plate semi final, but pride of place falls to our U14 Girls’ Football Team, who are in the County Final which they will play on 29th April. Congratulations to all the students who competed, these are fantastic achievements that reflect the students’ hard work and dedication.

I hope you all enjoy a restful, happy and safe Easter holiday and look forward to welcoming the students back in the summer term.

Addams Family Production Success

It’s been a pleasure this month to open our theatre doors to staff, students and parents to attend our annual school musical, The Addams Family. We also welcomed children from a local primary school to enjoy the dress rehearsal. The production proved to be a huge success, receiving rave reviews and selling out on all four nights!

Students, both on stage and behind the scenes, worked incredibly hard. The quality of production, acting and singing performances throughout all the shows was outstanding. A huge well done to all who were involved.

Thank you to our dedicated Creative Arts faculty for their unwavering dedication and thanks to the PTA for providing the evening's refreshments for all four of the shows.

Hertfordshire School FA County Cup Semi Final

On Monday 18th March, our under 14s girls football team played at home in the Hertfordshire Schools Football Association County Cup semi final, taking on a resilient Kings Langley School. The girls did incredibly well, winning 3-2 and securing a place in the final. Incredible performance from all involved but particularly Deborah D who scored a hatrick.

We await to hear who we will play against in the final, and where it will be played.

Send My Friend Training Weekend

Last weekend saw our new Send My Friend to School Campaign Champions for this year, Amaya and Rebecca, join campaign champions from schools across the UK to attend an inspiring and powerful residential training weekend. The girls took part in valuable high-level campaigning and public speaking training led by some of the UK’s leading campaign experts.

The Send My Friend to School campaign brings together young people, politicians, teachers, civil society and the media in joint campaigning to demand quality education for all children across the globe, even in times of crisis.

Year 13 Biologists at Imperial College

On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th March, Year 13 Biology students had the incredible opportunity to visit Imperial College London to experience two days of genetic engineering techniques with Dr McKinnon and his team in their world famous teaching labs.

The students spent a busy first day learning how to use proper gilson pipettes and taking part in serial dilutions and bacterial transformations. They applied serial dilutions to dilution plating and left them overnight to see how they would develop. The second day was just as busy, with students getting straight to work setting up an enzyme digest using plasmids and restriction enzymes.

Saracens Netball Match

Our students enjoyed netball at its finest this weekend at a Saracens Mavericks home match at the University of Hertfordshire. 30 of our Year 7 to 11 students watched the match, with 11 of our Year 7 and 8s enjoying the privilege of being on ball patrol. They sat court side, ready to assist when the ball went off the court during the game or as guard of honour for the Mavericks when they entered the court.

The Mavericks, who are undoubtedly hugely inspirational to many young netballers, stayed behind at the end of the match for photos and autographs.

World Book Day 2024

Students enjoyed celebrating World Book Day last week at school, where we welcomed best selling author Tamsin Winter to take part in a special online Q&A session to answer some questions from our students. Our librarian Mrs Rovira then organised a library competition for students to redesign the cover of their favourite book with the first prize being a signed copy of Tamsin Winter’s new book.

The week ended with a very successful book sale held in the library which raised £400 to go towards the library budget to buy some new titles for students to enjoy. We will also be raising money through a non-uniform day in the last week of term for Book Aid, a charity whose mission is to give people around the world who lack access to books, the opportunity to read for pleasure, study or lifelong learning.
