Head's Headline

It has been a short but busy month as we welcome students back after the Easter holidays. The Year 10s and 12s have been working hard sitting their exams and I’d like to commend them on the impressive manner in which they’ve been conducting themselves and wish them the best of luck with their results. We’ve also enjoyed a fantastic sporting success, celebrating a magnificent win from the Under 13s football team who beat Birchwood High 5-2 last week in the County Championship final. This is an amazing achievement after an incredible season for the team, and one that the school is immensely proud of, well done.

We were delighted to share last month our extracurricular schedule for the summer term. There are several new activities including a wide range of summer sports, STEM club, Hindu society and a Music Theatre club. It’s been great to see students making the most of the opportunities we offer at school and if they’re not involved already then we ask that you please share the schedule with your child and encourage them to join in at least one activity.

With most of our students having their own phone and access to the internet, I’d like to draw your attention to the latest online safety newsletter from the HFL Education wellbeing team. The information in the newsletter is given to help promote the safety of children and young people online.

Lastly, I would like to once again thank our parents and carers for their support and understanding during the industrial strike action by members of the NEU teachers’ unions on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May and for assisting your child to access the provision made available to them.

PSV Sports Trip

Staff and students had a fantastic time whilst away on the PSV football tour to Eindhoven. Our four teams on the trip experienced what it was like to train with PSV Eindhoven's academy coaches and put their skills to the test in football fixtures against local opposition. Croxley Danes 1st and 4th team won their fixtures convincingly, winning 5-1 and 5-0 respectively, whilst the 2nd and 3rd team unfortunately came off second best, losing against strong opposition. Students were also able to enjoy watching the U14s and U18s academy matches, bowling at the hotel, a trip to Efteling theme park, and a stadium tour! But to top it all off, students also had the opportunity to greet the PSV Eindhoven first team whilst receiving two signed shirts. The PSV football tour was a huge success, and certainly a trip that the PE Faculty will run again in the future.

Leadership skills training with the Royal Navy

At the end of March, the Royal Navy Leadership Academy in Portsmouth visited Croxley Danes School to help our Year 12 senior prefects develop their leadership skills. The afternoon training session was filled with various activities and games that tested team working and communication skills with the aim to help younger students develop their own leadership skills, creating a cycle of leadership growth and development throughout the school. These newly developed abilities will be put to good use as the senior prefects will be working with and leading younger students in the school, including Year 11 prefects and prospective Year 12 students attending our Sixth Form induction day in July.

We are grateful to the officers of the Royal Navy Leadership Academy for their valuable contribution to our school, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of these newly developed skills on our students.

Under 13s Football team wins County Championship

The under 13 girls’ football team have celebrated a fantastic win in the final of the Herts School NASUWT County shield after what has been a phenomenal season. After taking on Birchwood High, the team earned themselves an impressive 5-2 win and the trophy. The team was also successful in the National Schools’ competition, reaching the last 32 out of over 500 entries. The girls have worked tirelessly together to get this team to gel and all their efforts have truly paid off. It’s the first time a team at this school have won a county-level football trophy since opening six years ago - an immense achievement and one they should all be incredibly proud of.

Myles G in televised Macbeth casting

We are always keen to be informed of our students’ achievements outside of school and were delighted to hear about Myles G in Year 8’s latest acting success story. Myles has a number of acting achievements under his belt including but not limited to performing on the West End stage a number of times and appearing in no less than 15 adverts. After performing in the West End’s Macbeth, Myles has been one of the two children chosen to appear on the televised version of the performance for the BBC, to be shown on our screens at some point this summer. Myles is proof that with talent and determination you can achieve great things. Fantastic work Myles, a superstar in the making!
