At TDC, we believe that wearing studio uniforms give students a sense of belonging to our family as well as creating an identity for our studio in the greater community. Uniformity in dance wear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with alignment, and other important aspects of dance training. We encourage all of our students and parents to abide by our uniform requirements on a regular basis. Uniforms are not optional at TDC.
Learning the discipline of being prepared and dressed properly for class is an important aspect of our teachings in the studio. This means that parents of younger children do need to ensure their child is dressed and has their hair done correctly for class.
Our uniforms also:
Encourage discipline
Help students resist peer pressure to buy stylish clothes for class
Help identify non-students in the studio
Diminish economic and social barriers between students
Increase a sense of belonging and school pride
Improve attendance
Please ensure all parts of your child’s uniform are clearly labelled - individual shoes, socks, underpants...you’ll be amazed at the amount of lost property we generate!
Click on the drop down list to find your child's dance program category. Read the 'All Classes' uniform requirements first, then scroll down to find the additional uniform requirements for each dance styles. Please note that uniform requirements can vary for different style classes.
Students should carry their dance wear, shoes, and other belongings in a dance bag. Please print your child’s name on the bag as well as on all of its contents.
Dance wear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.
Boys age 10 and older must wear a dance belt.
Watches and jewellery should not be worn to class. (this includes fitness watches)
Dance shoes should never be worn outside.
Female students should wear their hair tightly secured and styled away from the face in a ballet bun.
Students are expected to observe good personal hygiene habits. Deodorant is required for students age 10 and older.
Warm up wraps and legwarmers can also be worn to class.
Students need to cover up when coming and going to and from classes. Wearing just your leotard outside is inappropriate and we do not want our studio represented with such behaviour.
Terpsichore Dance Company supplies almost all of the items of our uniform requirements. These dance wear items and shoes are for individual purchase at any time during the school year. We also carry extras such as warm up sweaters, legwarmers, t-shirts, and tracksuits. Items can be purchased in our office and through the shop in your parent portal.
