With the safety of our families a number one priority, TDC is very serious about upholding Child Protection laws and policies within the studio as well as at public performances and in the online arena (website and social media).
As part of your registration, you will have read and signed a media waiver allowing us to proudly use images and video footage of your student for advertising and promotional purposes. Should you have any concerns whatsoever with signing this declaration, please see our office staff who will happily assist you. Please note that we will never use your child's full name or any personal information when posting on social media.
All our teachers and staff members have undergone official checks allowing them to work with children.
The directors and staff at TDC are educated in the negative impact of inappropriate music and costume selection when it comes to performing dance routines and are wholeheartedly committed to ensuring children in all our dance routines are not subjected to any inappropriate songs or costuming. We recognise that songs with sexist, explicit, violent, racist, homophobic, or criminal content may influence our dancers and/or audience and will strive to avoid using such music. We are committed to restricting costumes that project sexuality, contain explicit graphic or textual content.
Our staff members have all been trained in first aid. We prefer a nut-free policy at the studio to ensure the safety of any students or parents with allergies to nuts or nut products and encourage gluten and dairy-free foods when involved in fundraisers or studio events.
Terpsichore Dance Company takes no responsibility for any stolen or misplaced property on the studio premises and we encourage our families to avoid bringing valuable items into the studio where possible.
You will find within our enrolment paperwork a public liability / insurance statement. Please read this document carefully and sign it prior to the commencement of classes so you fully understand the rights and responsibilities of your family and our studio.
Parents must notify the director/and or teachers regarding children who use an inhaler or who may require medications during their time at Terpsichore Dance Company. It is also important to inform the director and/or teachers about your child’s existing medical conditions or learning disabilities at the time of registration and throughout the school year. Our teachers are trained professionals who are anxious to work with all children and personalities, and the more we know about your child, the better the dance experience will be for all involved. All information about our students is confidential.
Mental health is just as important as physical health to all of us at TDC. If your child is going through struggles, is suffering from anxiety or depression, please let us know so we can help teach them in a way that will help and not hinder them through these tough times.
Students who require an inhaler and/or EPI pen must submit a copy of their action plan to the office upon registration.
We encourage students to arrive 15 minutes before class starts.
For their safety, children under age 8 should be picked up immediately after class and from within the building. Students aged 9 and older must be picked up no more than 15 minutes after their class is completed.
All students under 8 years of age must be collected from inside the building and are not to leave the premise unaccompanied by an adult. Please do not park illegally outside the building or in designated parking spots that are marked for other businesses.
Once students leave the building, Terpsichore Dance Company, its owners, employees, and volunteers are no longer responsible for that student.
Parents need to stay outside the doors until the class has been dismissed. Please respect our students and teachers and allow the classes to finish without extra distraction.
Colds, flu, and other contagious diseases occur frequently and spread easily among children. To help protect your own child’s health and to minimise the possibility of contagion at school, please keep your child at home if you observe any of the following symptoms:
• Nasal discharge that is green or yellow • Complaints of ear pain • Consistent cough • Severe sore throat • Eyes that are pink, burning, itching, or producing discharge • Diarrhoea or vomiting • Fever
If these symptoms or other conditions deemed contagious are observed in your child during a class, you will be called to pick up your child immediately.
When your child has a fever, please keep him/her at home until the temperature returns to normal. If there are any lingering signs of illness, such as glassy or watery eyes, listlessness, and drowsiness, please keep your child at home. This will help to ensure that the illness has passed and that your child will be well enough to resume class activities the following week.
Although we have never experienced an emergency evacuation at the school, we are prepared for such a circumstance. Students are to evacuate quietly and walk in single file as quickly as possible to the designated area (outside next to the car wash), where teachers will check roll. Students and teachers are to return to classrooms and buildings when the all-clear signal is given.
The school is home to children of all ages. Never park your vehicle in any area that is not a designated parking space. We do not have designated parking spaces at TDC. You can use the council car park behind our building next to the Coles and Library.
Please DO NOT park in the designated parking spots for the uniform shop, barber, music school, or Pilates studio. These are not our parking spaces and we expect our parents of TDC to abide by the designated signs that are posted there. We also want to be good neighbours to the neighbouring businesses around us so we appreciate everyone's attention to this issue.
