Tips for Success

  1. Attend class: This is essential to your success as a student; you will not succeed if you do not take your studies seriously. When you must miss class, inform your teacher before you miss the class and ask how you should handle missed tests, homework, or deadlines.

  2. Take your academic work seriously: Expect homework in every class, every night.

  3. Think of your high school education as an opportunity for self-discovery: Cultivate your interests by getting involved in clubs, sports, and activities. Reflect upon your values, your goals and your priorities in life.

  4. Learn to think critically, analytically and creatively: Practice the good habits of thoughtful inquiry, critical questioning, effective speaking, clear and concise writing, creative problem-solving and passionate engagement with ideas. This will help you in the future.

  5. Study both alone and in groups. Find YOUR study space where you can best concentrate on your work.

  6. Take careful notes in class.

  7. Take advantage of the academic support resources: after school tutoring, help from teachers before/after/during school, support classes, Khan Academy, and counseling support.

  8. Understand the class drop/level change policy.

  9. E-mail is an important communication tool: Check it at least once a day.

  10. Maintain a balance: Be involved in the life both in and out of the classroom.
