Online Activities for First Grade

This page was created to provide activity web sites for students to use at home to practice skills that are currently being learned in our first grade classes at Richland Elementary School.

MANY BOOKS TO READ ONLINE in a child friendly format:

- Epic Books - Our class code is tgr4039. Click "Read to Me" or "I Read". You can turn off the read aloud option for regular reading. Some books may have a comprehension quiz. There are more books than you can imagine on this site. This site is only available until 3 pm on weekdays.

- RazKids - My teacher code is shaney1. Click student name. Click password picture(s). Students select 2 books from their libraries to read to a grownup for the whole week. These books should be reread for fluency for a full week before selecting 2 more books. Parents, please encourage your child to use strategies (look at the first letter, sound it out, use picture clues, ask what makes sense) instead of giving the student the word too quickly. Also, encourage students to "read like a grownup" with fluency (accuracy, expression, and proper rate (speed)). Students know what will happen if they speed read through their library.

ALL subjects - practice:

- ABCYa. - This has many games for all subjects. Pick your grade level and choose activities. Only some are free.

- MobyMax - This site may be used later in the school year. A login will be provided when we are ready to use this site. It is 2 pictures after picking your child's name and possibly may be accessed from our Google Classroom. Your child will take a placement quizzes for all of the subjects during the first access. They do activities and earn game time for their efforts.

MATH:

- Splashlearn.com - a fun math practice site that is linked to the standards. You can access it using the login and password on our "To Do" bookmark.

- Xtramath.org - This site may be used later in the school year. A login will be provided when we are ready to use this site so your child's progress is recorded as credited work. This is a math facts practice site that is excellent for fact fluency. It is timed and it keeps track in a grid until your child masters addition, subtraction, etc. Students in the past have loved the challenge.

SPELLING:

- Spelling City Free spelling activities aligned to our reading curriculum. As always, the current week is at the top, but you can review previous lists.

FUN DISCUSSION TOPICS:

- Wonderopolis - You can explore very interesting questions at this site. If you sign up at this site, you will get a daily email with a question and discussion about the answer, often with additional resources. My adult son shared this with me and I have used these topics in class.

VIDEOS:

Go to Youtube or use YouTube Kids app for many educational videos. Here are a few favorites of the first grade teachers that you can key in the search bar:

-GoNoodle - Exercise dances and activities

-Jack Hartmann - Fun learning songs

-Alphablocks - Phonics videos with alphabet blocks characters
