2nd Grade has music class two times a week for 30 minutes. Students enjoy and learn about music through singing, playing instruments, and moving to music!
Field School music students do not have any regular homework or assignments to be completed outside of school. Any music projects will be completed in class. Additional practice or study outside of class is not required, but is optional for any students who wish to further strengthen their musical skills.

Rhythm
- Identify, label, and perform half notes
- Identify, label, and perform half rests
- Identify, label, and perform tied notes
- Define tempo names
- Experience triple meter (3/4)
- Recognize time signatures
Melody
- Identify, label, read, and perform sol-mi-la-do melodies
- Identify, label, read, and perform sol-mi-la-do-re melodies
- Recognize and perform melodic contour with instruments and the voice
- Introduce the staff as 5 lines and 4 spaces
- Identify steps, skips, repeats, and leaps
- Introduce musical alphabet as ABCDEFG
Harmony
- Perform and label ostinato
- Perform and label rounds
- Experience major and minor keys
- Demonstrate simple bordun (broken)
Form
- Identify and perform the verse and refrain form
- Identify coda
- Identify bar line, double bar line, and measure
Tone Color
- Identify the difference between non-pitched and pitched classroom percussion instruments (xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels)
- Distinguish between solo singing voice and multiple singing voices
- Identify forte and piano
In District 64, K-5 music classes will include music that represents a variety of musical styles.
