6th grade ELA students are starting their Greek Mythology Unit. Our 3rd quarter novel is "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan. Be sure to ask what God or Goddess was assigned to them for their "1st Person Greek Mythology Project."
In Mrs. Lesko and Mrs. Sullivan's classes, students are finishing up book clubs. Book clubs offer students choice over what they read and promote independent reading and discussion of the story's plot. Other classes are focusing on reading the novel, Freak the Mighty. During this unit students are focusing on theme, conflict, plot and characterization. During 3rd quarter, students will also focus on nonfiction text structures and argument writing.
The 8th Grade started the 3rd Quarter with a focus on analyzing themes while reading Holocaust literature. As we know this can be a sensitive topic, we want you to be prepared if these conversations come up at home. Students will read novels in book clubs during February. Their collaborative conversations will be the foundation to their summative writing assessment on theme.
We are already having fun with idioms. Feel free to recommend that they don't add fuel to the fire or air their dirty laundry in public!
