All Social Studies students will participate in a Painted Elephant competition at the beginning of the semester. Also, starting in January students will begin exploring Ancient Egypt! Students will learn more about the Pharaohs of Egypt and the construction of the pyramids, and they will explore the various GRAPES factors of the civilization.
In January, our 7th grade students are exploring the unit “Launching A New Republic” in Social Studies. They are learning about the early political debates between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson that shaped the nation’s first political parties and how these debates laid the foundation for our two-party system.
Students will explore Hamilton’s financial plan while discussing the importance of open political debate in a democracy.
In 8th Grade Social Studies, we are starting our Roaring Twenties and Great Depression Unit. The first half of this unit students will be learning about the prosperous times of the 1920s with the joys of jazz music, motion pictures, buying things with credit, and the stock market boom. The second half of this unit students will learn about the different causes of the Great Depression, what life was like during that time, and how the New Deal programs restored the economy.
