GERMAN I
The functionally driven scope and sequence of German I gives students reasons to communicate. As a result, they develop proficiency in the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and build their critical thinking skills. Grammar is presented in context to enhance the students’ ability to communicate with accuracy and confidence. Authentic dialogues, interviews, photos, and videos develop the students’ appreciation and understanding of the German-speaking world. Semesters: 2 Prerequisite: None Credit: 1/2 per semester
GERMAN II
This course continues the German I program and enhances the development of students’ linguistic proficiency. The four language skills and situational grammar continue to progress and develop students’ competency as effective communicators. In addition to this is the continued exposure to German culture within the context of the chapters. Semesters: 2 Prerequisite: German I or permission of teacher Credit: 1/2 per semester
GERMAN III - Dual Credit (MCC Elementary German GER 155/251)
This course teaches fundamental German language skills in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. Students learn the basic structure of the language. Cultural readers, discussion about contemporary issues, and exposure to practical, everyday situations provide a context for meaningful learning. Prerequisite: Successful completion of D155 Level 1 & 2 language coursework.
GERMAN IV - Dual Credit (MCC Intermediate German GER 252/255)
This course builds on Elementary German II and takes a cultural approach to the study of German. Students review previously learned grammar and structure and refine their communication and comprehension skills. German 252 builds on German 251 with practice in more advanced conversation, comprehension, composition, and grammar. Cultural readers offer further insight into German culture, history, and contemporary issues.
Prerequisite: German 251 with a grade of C- or higher or an appropriate score on the MCC German Placement Test.
