INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS
This class meets the Consumer Education requirement credit for graduation.
This is an introductory Business course that not only gives students exposure to the topics covered in our upper-level business courses, but exposes them to everything they need to live on their own.

COMPUTER BUSINESS APPS - DUAL CREDIT
This class meets the Computer Credit for graduation.
This is an introductory Business course that allows students to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

CONSUMER EDUCATION
This course meets the Consumer Education requirement for graduation.
This course gives students hands on learning experiences as they forecast their future career and make money management decisions; budgeting, banking, saving, checking, credit and investing (stock market challenge). Students will have an opportunity to search for grants and scholarships as they prepare for their future education. Real world simulations are used in this project-based class.
This course is only 9 weeks (1/2 a semester).

ACCOUNTING I & ACCOUNTING II
Accounting is an essential aspect of every business organization. These courses will give you a basic understanding of accounting principles and procedures used for recording, classifying, and summarizing financial data. You will use the financial terms, forms, records and statements found in the business world. You will perform accounting tasks both on paper and also with the latest accounting software. Although Accounting I and II are designed to be taken during one academic year, Accounting I will give you a basic foundation for understanding this lucrative career.
Highlights: Real-Life Examples, Business Simulations, and Online Software Applications
These are semester long courses. It is recommended that you take both together.

MARKETING - DUAL CREDIT
This course takes a hands-on approach to the study of marketing. Utilize the 4 P’s (product, place, price, promotion) of the marketing mix to actually plan and create a potential marketing plan for a business in our local area. Learn what makes the consumer reach for one brand over another. Show your creativity in designing advertisements and sales promotions. Discover what so many professionals know – marketing is an exciting, fun, and challenging career with great rewards.
Highlights: Chicago Auto show, Discount Card, McHenry County College Marketing Challenge & Create and Market a Minor League Baseball Team.

BUSINESS LAW
This course gives an overview of the laws that affect business and society as a whole. What would you do if you were falsely accused of a crime? Is it legal for schools to censor student newspapers? Students have an opportunity to give their points of view and argue about the application of the law. Current topics regarding criminal law, civil law, contracts and ethics are discussed. At the conclusion of this course, there will be a mock trial where students perform the roles of lawyers, witnesses, judge and jury members.
Highlights: Mock Trial, Field Trip to the McHenry County Government Center, and Guest Speakers

INCUBATOR - DUAL CREDIT
INCubatorEDU is a full-year course offering an authentic entrepreneurship experience as students develop their own product or service startup.
Problem-Solution Identification | Student teams explore, pivot, iterate and develop resilience as they work to solve problems they care about.
Customer and Idea Exploration | Real entrepreneurs and industry experts serve as volunteer coaches and mentors guiding student teams through the process of idea validation.
Pitch for Real Funding | Student teams pitch to gain investment funds in a final shark-tank style pitch event.
Prerequisite: Students must have previously earned a minimum grade of C- or better in a Business course.
This is a year long course.
