CULINARY ARTS I

Course Description: Culinary Arts I is a course designed to introduce students to fundamental food preparation terms, concepts, and methods in Culinary Arts where laboratory practice will parallel class work. Fundamental techniques, skills, and terminology are covered and mastered with an emphasis on basic kitchen safety, sanitation, and equipment usage. As a result of taking this class students will be able to prepare a variety of products.

NUTRITION & WELLNESS
Course Activities Include: Preparation of nutritious snacks or foods, activity tracking, diet analysis, current trends related to food and fitness, and light physical activity.
Course Description: This course will include information on basic nutrition and the essential nutrients and an in-depth look at how nutrition and wellness impacts or inhibits academic and athletic performance. This class will explore the global concerns related to health and wellness and allow you to develop a personal plan for overall wellness.

CULINARY ARTS II
Products Prepared: Stuffed Shells, Guacamole, Cajun Pasta, Focaccia Bread, Calzones, Soft Pretzels, Coffee Cake, Cinnamon Rolls, Salads and Dressings, Chicken Enchilada Soup, Broccoli Cheese Soup, Cake Roll, Cake Pops, Angel Food Cake, Chicken Pot Pie, Apple Pie, Cream Puffs, Kabobs, Fish Tacos, Bang Bang Shrimp, Cheddar Bacon Burgers, Stuffed Pork Chops and more!
Course Description: Culinary Arts II is a course designed to expand on the knowledge obtained from Culinary Arts I. Students will participate in more advanced laboratory practices with parallel class work. Higher level preparation techniques, skills, and terminology are covered and mastered with an emphasis on cutlery skills, meat preparation, and pastries. Students in this course will participate in creative preparation and presentation of a variety of food products.

ADVANCED CULINARY ARTS
Products Prepared: Recipes will focus on advanced preparation techniques for topics covered in both Culinary Arts I & II, including both sweet and savory products. You will have the opportunity to select several of the products that will be prepared!
Course Description: Expand on the culinary knowledge obtained from Culinary Arts I and II with a more in-depth look at the food service industry. Explore careers in the field such as including becoming a personal chef, a pastry chef, a caterer, and owning or operating a restaurant. Students will have the opportunity to explore regional and international cuisine. Students will have the opportunity to select and prepare recipes of their choosing related to the unit of study.
