FRENCH I
This course focuses on developing language proficiency so that students can communicate effectively and confidently. The program includes interwoven listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural information. A strong grammar foundation furthers the goal of communicative competence. Students begin developing practical, functional use of French while gaining insights into the francophone world's culture, history, and geography. FRENCH II
This course continues the French I program, with increased emphasis on language proficiency. The four language skills and a study of the culture are further developed using a functional approach to instruction. Reading selections are more sophisticated, and the grammar base is broadened. Semesters: 2 Prerequisite: French I or permission of teacher Credit: l/2 per semester
FRENCH III - Dual Credit (MCC French FRE 155/251)
In level 3, students begin to move away from memorized expressions and into more spontaneous communication. This course will continue to reinforce concepts covered in the first two levels and introduce more advanced vocabulary and grammatical concepts. The use of the target language is a key component at this level as students continue to strengthen their language proficiency. Authentic resources will allow students to continue to develop their interpretive (reading and listening) skills. Students will continue to explore customs and traditions and enhance their appreciation for diverse cultures. Level 3 classes are aligned with the MCC 155 and 251 curriculum.
This alignment will allow D155 students who earn a C- or better in this level 3 class (both semesters) to receive 7 credit hours and enroll in level 4. Please note that any student who does not earn a C- or better in level 3 will not be eligible to enroll in the D155 level 4 French.
FRENCH IV- Dual Credit (MCC French FRE 252/255)
Level 4 classes are aligned with the MCC 252 and 255 curriculum. Students who successfully complete this course will earn 7 college credits. Students will continue to develop and improve their language proficiency across the modes of communication in the world language and gain a greater cultural awareness. This advanced level course will focus on refining communicative skills for real world application.
Please note that students must also earn a C- or better 1st semester in DC French to continue participating in this course 2nd semester.
