Students are required to take physical education unless excused for medical reasons. A physician’s statement must be submitted for such an excuse to be issued. A student excused for medical reasons does not receive course credit. Ninth grade students are required to take physical education every other day for both semesters. Tenth grade students are required to take physical education every other day for one semester. Any student who fails to receive 1-½ credits for physical education during grades 9 and 10 will be required to retake the class until such credit is earned. Upper classmen who take physical education courses as electives can only take one physical education course per semester.

This course continues the presentation of a variety of activities to achieve the following goals: provide motivated students with skill development and refinement in sporting, recreational, and leisure-time activities; promote the importance of physical fitness and the associated aspect of its measurement; and to develop positive activities for the management of stress. This course may be repeated for four semesters. Evaluation is based on weekly grades, fitness, exercises, and make-up work.

The main interest of this course is to teach the students different types of weight training that will benefit them in everyday life. Other physical fitness will be obtained through: aerobic exercise, flexibility exercises, and other forms of cardio-vascular conditioning. The course will include basic programs to rehabilitate common injuries. This course may be repeated for four semesters. Grades based on final test, participation, improved fitness, and conduct.
