The Carlinville High School Band performs as many different bands during the course of the year. Performances in marching band, pep band, and concert band are required of all class members. The band participates in local and out-of-town parades as well as IHSA music contests and ILMEA music festivals. Grades are based upon participation, attendance, and music performance skills. Any student playing an instrument (including piano) is encouraged to be a member of the Cavalier band. Students are exposed to a wide variety of repertoire throughout the course of the school year.

The Carlinville High School Concert Choir offers students the opportunity to improve their vocal technique and performance skills, while experiencing a wide variety of choral literature. Student assessment includes attendance, participation, and skill mastery. Attendance at performances is mandatory and required for class credit. Chorus members participate in IHSA and ILMEA contests. Any student with a sincere desire to improve their ability and knowledge of singing may be a successful member of the CHS Concert Choir. Students are encouraged to sign up for the entire year.
Introduction to Art (552/553)

This class will focus on setting up students with foundational drawing, painting and mixed media skills to build their artistic ability. We will cover the elements of art and principles of design in depth, with focus on color theory. We will learn how to source imagery for inspiration, how to generate ideas and execute them successfully, and how to push our draftsmanship skills to the next level with observational drawing techniques. Mediums we will use in class will include traditional graphite drawing, charcoal, mixed media, watercolor and acrylic paint. We will also cover basic print making techniques and explore clay techniques.

This course is designed for students who have already had some basic art in high school. The elements and principles of visual organization that are introduced in Art I will also be covered in this class. However, students are expected to give more thought and detail to their finished compositions. This studio course is planned so that students will learn additional techniques and creative thought processes as well as new applications for the skills and concepts learned in Art I. Emphasis will be on development of drawing skills. Grades will be based on classroom participation, assigned projects and portfolio development.
Printmaking 1 (572/573)

Prerequisite: Intro to Art
This class will focus on creating multiples and different printmaking techniques including block printing, relief etching and screen printing. We will learn art history and about different historical figures in the field per project to inspire us. This class has a focus on making multiples, and such techniques require us to execute imagery using the principles and elements of design to an advanced level. There will be a lot of drafting involved to get us to the printmaking steps. This class will be printing t-shirts during the screen printing unit, so there will be elements of business and marketing to encourage students to print multiple school related designs.
Digital Art 1 (582/583)

This course will focus on the basic principles of digital art making. We will be learning photoshop and how to paint digitally with a focus on the elements of art and principles of design applied in a digital space. We will cover intro to graphic design, as well as learning about different types of digital files and how to use them, and how to source digital reference and use digital assets. This class will be focusing primarily on art for marketing so there will be an emphasis on quality and adhesion to set parameters to produce stunning works of digital art in the scope of client demands.
Set and Stage Design (584)

In this hands-on stage and set design class, students will work together to bring the high school play to life by creating props, painting large set pieces, and designing backdrops. Through learning basic 3d art construction, painting techniques, and design principles, students will gain practical experience in the technical aspects of theater production while contributing to the visual elements that set the stage for the performance. Whether you're a budding artist or a future stagehand, this class offers a creative and collaborative environment to explore the world of stage design. This course can be repeated and taken multiple times.
Senior Portfolio (575)

This class will be an independent study type class only available to select students with my approval. Students need to be self-starters and able to work independently with only an occasional check in. This class should be used for a student to develop a portfolio to apply to college with, but other cases will be accepted on a per-student basis. Projects and materials will change per student.
