Welcome to our Spring Edition - March 2021
Snowdrops are one of the first signs of spring. These snowdrops were noticed in The Avenue, near the Gruffalo and were planted by some of our previous Outdoor Explorer members a couple of years ago.
These P1 Outdoor Explorers make sure that any worms they find when digging are well looked after. They build worm hotels which are filled with lots of soil, water and grass. What more can a worm guest ask for?
Click on this video (1min 20 secs) made by Laura and Mrs Aitken to see how you could make a wildlife garden to encourage some of our most important garden visitors.
Removing the weeds.
Adding some good quality soil.
Planting seeds to encourage bugs, bees and butterflies.
Now let's see what happens...
Whether they are virtual, real, created or imagined, pets have been amazing at keeping some Outdoor Explorers going over the last year or so. You can walk them, play with them, watch them or just give them a big cuddle. It is good to know that their love is unconditional and it is just what you need sometimes to make your day just that little bit more special. Stroking our animals and,if they are dogs, taking them out for a walk can be really good for our mental health. If you would like to send your pet picture or I have forgotten to put up any pet pictures up, please send in the postbox below or tell me and I will put them in our next edition. Which pet do you think belongs to Gnoma?
This Outdoor Explorer has completed a personal project on a wide range of wildlife that you can find in the UK. If you click on the slide show, you will be able to find out some really interesting facts and information about a range of animals living in Great Britain. Well done to this Outdoor Explorer.
Watch the video (1 Minute) to see how to make a pot
Here is an example of the pot which is eco friendly as we have reused a milk carton and easy to make.
Watch the video to see how Mrs Aitken plants a sunflower seed.
How big will yours grow?
Mr Speakman found these links from the RSPB. They are both great ways to learn more about our bird life and how to recognise them through their descriptions and sounds. Click on the photos to learn more.
We love the lantern that these Outdoor Explorers have made in their garden. Why not watch the video and try to make one of these beautiful lanterns yourself?
Taylor Swift said that at of the time of writing the song, she had learned a very important lesson in life that, "Whatever one does, people are always going to say something about it, and that is something that can never be controlled. However, there is something that can be controlled in respect to that, and that is “our reaction” to what people say about us." According to her, she is always going to shake off the negative things her detractors say about her and not let it get to her.
Austin and Miss Bills welcome in the spring with a Taylor Swift song encouraging resilience and having the courage to be yourself
