This short video of just over 2 minutes shows how you can draw Sonic.
We have been collecting lots of empty boxes and packets whilst at home. We keep them in a bag and then when we feel like making something, there is lots of interesting material to choose from. On this film which lasts just over 1 minute we are going to make another box puppet - a friend for Boxie. Can you make something using junk? Remember to check that you can use all the materials before making something!

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the Outdoor Explorers' most popular characters, so we have added a few hedgehog pictures to start off our big draw. Why don't you draw a picture, colour it in, take a photo and send it to us? We can then add it to our picture carousel.
Mrs Aitken and Laura are making rock cakes today. This short video shows them measuring out the flour. To watch the whole video, click on the 'Activities' tab.

We often make hedgehog houses at Smithton Primary School and this short clip shows how important it is for a hedgehog to have somewhere cosy to settle down, especially in the winter.
Some children made this hedgehog house in our outdoor learning area last autumn, all ready for a hedgehog to come along and hibernate through the winter months.
5 Fun Hedgehog facts: 1 They are nocturnal. They like to sleep in the day and come out at night. 2 They hunt primarily using their hearing and smell because their eyesight is not very good, although they can see quite well in the dark. 3. They have around 5000 to 7000 spines. 4.Hedgehogs have the ability to hibernate (although not all do), which makes them one of only three mammals that hibernate in the UK. Hibernating means that they hole themselves up and stay in a dormant state for winter. 5 The ‘Hedge’ part of their name comes from where they build their nests - hedges, bushes and shrubs. The ‘hog’ part comes from the small snorting/ grunting sound they make which is similar to a pig/warthog.
