Ye Shen holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Delaware, where she was an AERA-NSF Dissertation Fellow. As a globally oriented scholar, Dr. Shen conducts rigorous empirical research with the goal of influencing policy and informing language teaching and learning in diverse educational and community contexts. Her work is grounded in an asset-based, additive view of bilingualism and linguistic diversity, recognizing students’ cultural and linguistic assets as fundamental strengths. Through quantitative studies utilizing behavioral and neuroimaging measures, she aims to understand the complex and multifaceted processes underlying multilingual language, school readiness, and academic development. She is particularly interested in exploring how children’s linguistic, cognitive, and environmental factors interactively shape their trajectories as multilinguals.

Description of the Opportunity:
Description of the Opportunity:
The MiNT Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University, directed by Dr. Ye Shen, has positions for motivated research students to support ongoing projects focused on the early development of multilingual children. Our interdisciplinary research examines children’s language, literacy, and academic skills through quantitative and neuroimaging techniques, with particular attention to bilingual learners and the role of families, schools, and technology in supporting learning and development.
Responsibilities may include:
Recruiting participants and coordinating study logistics
Assisting with data collection in schools, community settings, and online environments
Conducting assessments with children and/or families
Data entry, management, and preliminary analysis
Screening, reviewing, and coding relevant literature on a systematic review and meta-analysis project
Supporting dissemination efforts (e.g., conference presentations, manuscripts)
Students will gain hands-on experience with all phases of the research process, mentorship and opportunities for professional development, and potential for involvement in data analysis and co-authorship depending on contribution.
