Dr. Nurtas Abdimomynov is a Professor of History at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary Education Center of the Narxoz University in Kazakhstan. He earned his Master of Science (M.S.) in Education from Johns Hopkins University (JHU), and he received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in History from al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) under the supervision of Professor Kalkaman Zhumagulov (KazNU, Kazakhstan) and Professor Mischa Meier (Tübingen University, Germany).
Nurtas has more than 20 years of experience in the field of higher education, fulfilling various roles such as lecturer, researcher, school leader, and professor. Within his classroom, he actively engages in Action Research, integrating creative and innovative teaching and learning strategies to enhance students' thinking skills, empathy, and ethical reasoning, which he believes are essential in the AI age.
Nurtas's current research and teaching priorities include (1) utilizing innovative and creative strategies in socio-humanitarian classes to develop students' thinking skills and ethical reasoning (Action Research); (2) the study of the thoughts of medieval Turkic scholars on education; (3) the study of the trade and economic relations of the Golden Horde with western countries in the 13th to 15th centuries based on materials from the Vatican archives and libraries.
