Artist Statement
Growing up, I felt forced to look a certain way around certain family members, but around my parents I was able to wear what I liked or wanted in my own home. Even though I was almost able to fully express myself with my parents, it still took me a really long time to figure out who I was exactly. To the people around me, I was this little girl growing up, but in reality, I was always this boy just trying to figure out who he was. When I had finally figured it all out, I was much happier in my truth. However, not all of it was pretty.
I want to explore the childhood trauma that has affected me to this day, including the trauma from high school when I got verbally and almost physically assaulted. This event fueled the photographic work that would set me on the path to tackling societal norms, stereotypes, gender identity and sexuality, and the LGBTQ+ community.
Society has created this narrative that trans individuals should be this or that, when in reality that’s not the case. Our experiences are different and they are our own and we are the ones that understand this. I want to keep telling stories about people’s lives, their bodies, their relationships, and more than just mine. Everyone’s stories deserve to be told and we deserve better representation out there. This table that society sits comfortably at deserves to be shaken.

Art History Papers
Thanks, Andrew! You were actually supposed to select ONE theme (as opposed to two) but since this is our first paper I'll look over it this time around. Definitely an interesting, albeit stark, dichotomy between the two works. Good formal analysis, however, I'm not sure I'd totally agree on Faustine's work as "erotic" - though I do appreciate the invocation of Lorde to support your argument!

Thank you, Andrew! Moving forward, do be sure to utilize your introductory paragraph to introduce/sediment your paper's thesis/primary argument. Great use of Nochlin/Bhabha's text in this though!
