Learn how to spin flags, dance, and perform with style! The Colorguard Club starts Tuesday, November 18, and meets every Tuesday from 2:30–4:00pm in the CSHS Band Room.
Open to all 7th–12th graders — no previous experience necessary! Come have fun, make new friends, and learn something new.
✨ Join the fun. Spin with us! ✨
Did you know you can listen to the recordings of our band pieces at home? A link to the Reference Recording Sheet is available at the bottom of the TWIB. Listening to the reference recordings is one of the best tools you have to understand what each piece should sound like. As you listen, focus on tone quality, balance and blend, style, and musical phrasing. Use these recordings to guide your practice and elevate your ensemble performance!
Calling all tuba and euphonium players—it's time to ring in the season with the warm, wonderful sound of low brass caroling at the Grand Rapids Public Museum!
Join us for an afternoon of festive music-making as our annual Tuba Christmas concert returns to the museum’s galleria, right beneath “Finny” the whale skeleton!
🎺 Who Can Play?
Anyone! All valved low brass players of any age and experience level are welcome.
📅 Schedule for the Day:

Performing on the galleria under Finny!
💲 Participation Fee: $15

Fall Solo & Ensemble is coming up soon! Please check the posted schedule to find your performance time.
Rehearse early and often. Practice with your accompanist or ensemble multiple times before the event.
You may use class time for rehearsals—three rehearsal spaces are available. A rotating schedule may be used based on demand.
You are also encouraged to rehearse outside of class for extra preparation.
Performance length: Your event must be at least 1 minute 30 seconds long. You may perform two pieces to meet this requirement. Performances shorter than 1:30 will not receive a rating.
Ensembles: Each performer must play a separate part—no doubling. Typically:
High instruments → Part A
Mid instruments → Part B
Low instruments → Part C
If you’re unsure which part to play, please ask a director.
Bring the original score/book with you or confirm that a director has it.
Dress nicely – this is a formal performance.
Arrive 45–60 minutes early to allow time for parking, check-in, finding your warm-up room, and getting your original from headquarters.
Warm up comfortably, but save your best playing for your performance!
If you are a soloist, Mr. Weber will meet you at your performance room (or before) to accompany you. Timing can be tight, so don’t worry if you need to wait a few minutes between performances.
A few minutes before your event, head to your performance room. Room workers will assist you.
Hand your music to the worker.
Set up chairs and stands so the judge can see you clearly.
Play a few notes to get used to the room and re-tune with your accompanist or group.
When the judge and worker are ready, your event will be announced—smile, take a breath, and enjoy your performance!
After performing, the judge will offer feedback and suggestions. Once finished:
Return to the warm-up room to pack up.
Come back to the performance room for your original music and rating (usually ready after the next performance).
Return your original to headquarters.
Collect your medal if you received a Division I or II rating—everyone in your ensemble earns their own medal!
The entire Solo & Ensemble experience—from arrival to departure—typically takes 60–90 minutes. The performance and feedback portion lasts about 15 minutes.
Good luck, Red Hawks! Perform with confidence, musicianship, and pride! ❤️🎶
Quick reminder: Please bring your instrument every day to class — we’ll be using them daily! 🎶
