Ms. Ariah Bremby will be joining us for the Winter and Spring seasons as a teaching intern. She is a graduate of Greenville High School and is currently studying to become a band director at Central Michigan University. Ms. Bremby will be working with all bands in grades 6–12, and we are excited to have her with our students and program.
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is a non-profit summer school of the arts specializing in two-week arts programs for intermediate and high school students. We are excited to announce that a Scholarship Representative from Blue Lake will be listening to students for scholarships and sharing some information about the summer camp programs.
While you may not be sure if this is something you would like to consider for your child, the presentation and audition process is a great learning experience for students. If you do choose to send your student to Blue Lake, there may be a scholarship available to help cover the cost of tuition.
In order to participate in the scholarship evaluation, your student will need to complete the online Merit Scholarship Application prior to the scholarship day. It takes about 5 minutes. Within the application, they will be asked to enter the date of our scholarship day, along with a code.
Complete this form: Merit Scholarship Application
Include this date: January 6
Include this code: 1446

Semester 1 officially ends on January 16. If you are missing any required concert performances, you must arrange a time to perform for a director before the end of the semester. Once the semester closes, grades are locked and cannot be changed.
Please note that Winter Assessment grades will be recorded in Semester 2, not Semester 1.
Additionally, all students are required to perform in two pep band events before the end of Semester 1. The January 16 pep band games count toward this requirement.
If you have questions about your requirements or need to schedule a make-up performance, see a director as soon as possible.
As we head into the second half of the school year, please take a moment to check the band calendar for all required events and performances through the end of the year. Concerts, festivals, and end-of-year events—including Memorial Day, Graduation, and Welcome Weekend—have been posted since April 2025. Staying familiar with the calendar helps ensure everyone is prepared and able to participate fully. Thank you for your continued commitment and support of our band program!

It’s wintertime in Michigan, and Mother Nature doesn’t always make it easy for us. In the event that school is cancelled, performances are NOT automatically cancelled. All events will continue as scheduled unless school administration determines that all afternoon events are cancelled.
Any performance cancellation will come through a separate, official communication from the band directors and school administration. During inclement weather situations, the directors remain in constant contact throughout the day, and official rulings are typically made between 1:00–3:00pm. Decisions regarding afternoon events are based on the safety of travel both to and around campus.
If the school administration cancels all afternoon events, the district will post an official notice, and the band directors will follow up with a confirmation that the performance is cancelled. Please remember that only the school administration and band directors serve as official information sources in these situations. This applies to concerts, basketball games, and any other required performances.
If the performance moves forward but you do not feel comfortable allowing your student to travel, please let us know. The student will still need to complete an approved make-up assignment to receive full credit for the performance.
Stay safe, and thank you for your flexibility during Michigan’s winter season!
Did you know you can listen to the recordings of our band pieces at home? A link to the Reference Recording Sheet is available at the bottom of the TWIB. Listening to the reference recordings is one of the best tools you have to understand what each piece should sound like. As you listen, focus on tone quality, balance and blend, style, and musical phrasing. Use these recordings to guide your practice and elevate your ensemble performance!
