Pre-Writing

Like pre-reading, pre-writing tasks are important for students to use in order to complete a final writing task. Pre-writing allows students to:

review and build upon writing skills

review content in a low-risk activity

review academic vocabulary

activates their background knowledge of content and skills

engage in metacognition (make connections between new and previous knowledge)

organize ideas

create a writing outline

brainstorm

Several pre-writing strategies are linked below. The instructions are attached and many of them also have graphic organizers for students. If you need any assistance using these strategies do not hesitate to reach out to Crystal Parten at: cparten@csraresa.org
