During Reading
During reading activities or strategies help students understand why the reading is important and give them a purpose for reading in class. During reading strategies also help students comprehend what they are reading because they are paying closer attention to the text as they read by highlighting, annotating, and questioning. During reading activities or strategies should encourage students to do one or more of the following:
Retelling
Visualizing
Make Connections
Notice Opinions/Bias
Ask & Answer Questions
Highlight key words/phrases - annotate the text
Several during reading strategies are linked below. General Close Reading strategies and resources are listed first with more specific strategies second. The instructions are attached and many of them also have graphic organizers for students. If you need any assistance using these strategies do not hesitate to reach out to Crystal Parten at: cparten@csraresa.org
