February 28, 2022

8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

This full-day mini-conference is a unique opportunity for social studies, ELA, and art teachers and will feature professional development from some of the most recognizable names in social studies in the state of Georgia! All participants will engage in a hands-on, minds-on workshop on visual literacy from the Booth Western Art Museum professionals using primary sources straight from their collection!

For the breakout sessions: 3rd-5th grade teachers will enjoy a collaborative workshop given by the Booth Museum and Georgia Council on Economic Education specialists that incorporates economics, social studies literacy, map skills, and art! This workshop will provide teachers with a variety of resources and strategies to teach the 3rd-5th grade social studies standards and increase engagement and content retention.

6th-8th grade teachers will enjoy a collaborative workshop given by Lisa Landers of the Georgia Historical Society and Crystal Parten of CSRA RESA. This session will focus on map skills, primary source analysis, and social studies literacy. This workshop will help teachers improve their students' historical thinking and map skills while also heightening engagement in their social studies classes.

Teachers are encouraged to bring a device (laptop, tablet, chromebook). All teachers will leave with lessons and resources that are aligned with the GSE!
