To build students toward disciplinary literacy, a combination of specific and wide questions can be used to enhance their disciplinary content knowledge and skills. These questions can be used during reading, but also during observing and analysis. Teachers may be familiar with the QAR (Question-Answer-Relationship) approach to questioning text, but these questions simplify that process and clarify what students are looking for.
