Visual Art Foundations

In Art Foundations we will explore a wide range of national and international contemporary art practices and learn skills through discussion and process with a primary focus on the Elements of Art, within each project (Line, Shape, Form, Value, Space, Color).

Art Supply requirements will be minimal and will be announced in class. I will however accept donations of Clorox wipes, Kleenex, colored sharpies, and old magazines at any time throughout the year.

Hi, I'm Sarah Nathaniel ! This is my third year at RMS as a teacher, but I grew up in Decatur and was actually a student to RMS! I I've been working with middle school artists at the High Museum of Art for many years, and have taught at Kennesaw State and Georgia Highlands College. I'm also a professional working artist in Atlanta.

6th Grade Artist projects will include Collage Zentangles, and a project called My 360 Degree World where artists will create their own worlds that will include, international, national, local, and geological landmarks, outdoor art sculptures, and tons more!

7th & 8th Grade Artist project unit themes this year will focus on size, proximity, and site specificity.

Inktober is a month long art challenge (during October) that is focused on improving skill and developing positive drawing habits. Every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing. Student's drawings will be posted on our Instagram page.

Art Club dates and times for the 2021-22 beginning Wednesdays (3:45-4:45) AFTER Fall Break (week of Sept 22) and will the week before Spring Break. Art Club is a great opportunity to share your work, share tips and techniques, and be amongst like-minded creatives!
