Design and Engineering covers a lot of ground! We will focus on the Design Cycle and Systems Thinking as we learn about technology and how it affects society, inventions and innovations, and systems modeling. Oh, we might make (or destroy) a few cool things along the way too!

In the past I have taught Life and Physical Science to 7th and 8th graders. But, in my outside school life I teach people who are interested in other things - like welding, auto mechanics, photography, and construction. I have been part of a winning team at the 24 Hours of Daytona 24 race, built a house from the ground up, SCUBA dived in Australia, coached Lego robotics teams and released sea turtles from protected hatcheries. What could possibly lead to all these diverse experiences? Well, I love to learn, and once I start learning about something, I'm driven to be successful.
What this might mean for a student in my class is that if you have an interest in learning something, I will help you learn as much as we can, as long as you are willing to put in the practice. Our standards are diverse and there are lots of different ways to learn things like the Design Cycle and Systems Thinking. Join me on this journey as we learn about things together.
We will learn how to use tools and follow diagrams without words.
We will probably repair a few things, like this electric pencil sharpener.
This is the inside of a Nissan Maxima manual transmission. What a design and system of parts that work together!
There are incredibly complex systems at work here, both in the flower and the butterfly.
The design of this landscape is very intentional and has many functional attributes that are purposefully integrated to the landscape.
